Will soon have access to a new style of double (inner and outer) mechanical beadlocks that have street legal (to the best of my knowledge) rim strengtheners/protectors. They have solid internals (not second airs) and are being quickly reviewed/introduced on 4wd TV this week in Melbourne (next week in Qld).

Feedback from a 2nd air owner (not me)

1.Valve for 2nd tube needs a flat inner surface and the 100 series rims are too narrow. I kept getting air leaks around 2nd valve and in the end had to buy 4 non toyota rims .

2. The valve in the tube has come away twice from tube . Tube goes down but driver is not necessarily aware because still have air in main tire. The result is broken tube flaps around and overheats tyre. Result : 2 buggered mtr tires with great slabs of molten rubber.

3. Suggest if you do get them only get 2 front - tyres come off at low pressure when turning and 95% of time its the front.

And my 2 cents, once the tube stretches a little they are nightmare to balance. I also upgraded my rims to suite the beadlocks. Nothing but trouble.
I ended up selling the rims (that I really liked 16x10's) and GAVE the second air's away.
Oh and they are not legal, Drilling the rim for the second valve is illegal.

Correct, drilling the rim for the 2nd airs is not legal, however i think you can buy rims with a 2nd hole in them specifically designed for the 2nd airs. Other than that, eastern wheel works in melbourne would be a place to look...
Cheers,
Dan.

..ok, yes I believe they are the USA6x6 beadlocks. We have no fixed retail price yet but I am thinking around $600 each.

The rims have a folded bead strengthener, not a welded one and require no drilling, etc. Hence should be considered street legal.

There are a stack of fancy designs and you can customise what is laser cut into the rim strengthener.

LEGAL ... DOT# USA6X6317. We are an approved small steel double beadlock maker.

Sounds wonderfull except for the price  kind of restricts them to hard core comp trucks, not budget bush bashers :x

agreed, too much money for the average bush basher, couldnt justify that much for beadlocks.

Yeah, I have to agree...just posted it as another option. I did though find it interesting that they may get around the legalities though with no drilling or welding...especially considering the way that some folk driving in Vic have been targetted for running conventional bead locks.
Mine won't be here until after Tuff Truck anyway, so I can only comment on what I have seen at Woodpecker.

Some dudes in the states make their own beadlocks by welding a ring of thick wire to the rim just in from the lip. Interesting to see how well these would work. Cheap option if you had some old steel rims you did'nt care much for.
