Got an MQ patrol but after seeing an LJ70 for sale on side of road I keep looking at them
Seen one for $4000 its a 1986 with reco engine, 2" body, 2" spring, snorkle, towbar, roof rack, how's this for price?
What are they like power wise the mq's got a 3.3Td in it, the Bundera has got a smaller donk at 2.4Td but would be lighter overall i presume, also electronic injection?.
Also how are they in the bush, probably a bit small for what I want but the rear seats could always come out. Will it go where I can get the MQ at the minute? I don't do anything too hardcore but if my mates 80Series can get up I have to try!
Would this model have coil springs?
Finally how expensive are parts?
I know lots of questions, and I will probably keep the patrol anyway but if I've got the money when a truck comes along at the right price...

Hey champ
I paid $4ooo for mine! But have now doubled that + MoRE! (just finishing of a V6 conversion)
Mine was the Turbo Diesel! It did actually go quite well, (just do the timing belt and make sure to do the idlers too-as soon as you get it if uncertain of its history)
Goes well in the bush! Havent found to much to stop it! It follows a mates 75series on 37s!
Pretty sure that all the bundera models ran the coils!
Parts seem reasonable. Havent had to buy to much for it (although engine swaps arent real cheap!)
Hope that has helped you out a little, oh yeah I took the back seat out the day I got the truck!
Cheers

Gday,
Ive had my bundy for about a year and a half now. Its been up cape york and back and is doin beautifully. Mine is only the little 22R 2.4lt petrol engine so not real powerfull. I did just get extractors fitted so a little better now.
All Bundera modles have coils. From what ive heard the first thing to change for serious off road use is the rear suspension set up. Standard they have one side behind the axle and one side in front. Apparantly its better tho have both coils on the same side?
Parts are easy to find and reasonably cheap. They share most bits with old hiluxes so you can find parts every where. I even managed to get an engine mount replaced in weipa for $50.
The back seats are useless. I also took mine out not long after buying it.
Any way, I reckon the bundera is a great little fourby, and while a little more space would be nice at times, its really pretty good.

i just helped buy one for the sister's boyfriend. All the Lj models have coils all round, the hilux engine, gearbox (r151 i think), t-case and diffs. The Bj70 models came with the cruiser running gear, engine and leaf springs.
Comparing the one we brought with my bj40: It has a lot more body roll, its a bit more comfortable with the coils. But it also feels like it needs a lot more right foot to get going. The engine is mechanically injected, and IMO needs the turbo. I'd hate to have to drive one with a standard 2L in it. Back seats in the one we got are good, more room than i would have thought, although, no room for anything else.
Parts are the same as hilux for running gear, and other 70 series for the body. Nice little car, but a lot smaller than a nissan.
