hi all,
I have a 03 hilux sr5, 3lt turbo desiel. Was considering putting a boost gauge on and increasing the boost. Also considering putting a 2.5 inch exhaust on as well. Any thoughts on increasing the boost, has anyone done it and was it worth while. I cant think of any reason not to do it but lots of reason why i should. If any one has done it what boost are you running with and has it caused any problems. Any input would be appreciated.

increasing boost - hilux

Do the exhaust first before the boost.
Make sure the new pipe goes from the back of the turbo.
A good exhaust shop will take off the turbo backing plate and
machine the exit to suit the new exhaust diameter, not just weld it on the back.
There should be a slight increase in boost because of the new flowing exhaust.
Mine factory was running 12Psi .
I up the boost but found at 15psi there is a boost cut and the fuel is
taken out drove shocking.
Without tricking the computer I adjusted it to make 14psi max and all OK.
I don't think the extra 2 psi made a huge difference but the boost controller made the turbo spool up quicker so it was better drive feeling.
The really bad thing is trying to conect the boost controller, have a look at where the turbo is on the Hilux , It's a pain and all bad with heaps of swearing and skin of the fingers.
If funds permit get a Tunit unit to adjust the computer and fix the fuel curve. That's my next step in the engine side of things.(funds permitting)
Good Luck

Thanks for that. I am going to check out a few exhaust shops tomorrow and see what can be done. I do know that the dirty big muffer has to go so it can breath better. One of those tunits would be great but the dollars will be a problem. I just wonder how much better they actually make the truck go. The web site did not say too much. Has anyone fitted one. Do they work and are they worth the money. Need to be able to justify it to the handbrake.
Thanks
