GQ gear shifter query

Post by slacker »

i have an 88 GQ patrol, some times when driving the shifter feels loose like it's in neutral when it's in gear, mainly 2nd,3rd and 4th gear.

I have had the 4wd for about 6 months and it didnt seem to have this problem when i first got it, even though i had to change the clutch 3 days after i bought it. (yes i knew the clutch was stuffed). Mainly in the last couple of months it has been doing this every now and then. It still shifts gears fine but the shifter just wobbles about a bit.

As far as i know the shifter is in and the locking rings/C clips are in place.

any help greatly appreciated

regards

Sacha

It may be as easy as repacing the seat bush where the bottom of the stick sits or the larger one where the stick pivots.

Just a bit of mining.

My shifter has started to feel like its in neutral when its in gear.

Which parts can I replace? There is a bush right at the that the bottom of the shifter sits in. Can I also replace the rubber where the circlips stick into?

Does anyone have the part numbers handy? I rang nissan spares today and he had nfi what I was talking about. He faxed me an exploded diagram and it was of a different box so I gave up for the day.

A bit of a hijack, but can you fit the shorter GQ series 2 gearsticks to the GQ series 1?

I ordered the shifter parts from nissan today.

There are 3 parts that can wear out. Its costing about $40 for them all, should be good as new after.

Dont forget the rubber boot on the base of the gear stick.

if this isnt in good nic it will let water, ect into your gearbox.

mine cost $15 from nissan.

Does anyone have the part numbers? I need to also do mine. But ordering from Canada, it sure helps to have the part numbers. Cheers, John

Hi, I ended up only replacing the bush. This fixed it, the part number is 32861-01G00.

The bush is supposed to be stuck on the end of the shifter around the ball at the bottom. If you remove the shifter and the bush isnt still attached then it needs replacing.

My shifter works a treat now. The old bush was a PITA to remove though.
