pretty sure this has been asked before but i cant find it so here goes
Since all the servos around here dont have leaded replacement fuel anymore is it safe to run unleaded in my 84 rangie?

Not so fast Batman.
84s should be 9.35:1 and most probably will ping on 92 octane. Look next to the engine number
Try it out but you may have to retard the ignition or run a shandy of 92 and 95 or 98.

I run premium in my 83 Rangie without having to set the timing. Plus the 96/98 octane that premium offers is worth the extra couple of dollars each refill.

As Phil said, regular unleaded on a Hi-Comp 3.5 you will have to alter it to eliminante pinging.

Oops

Forgot about hi comp engines.
Both of mine are low, so I didn't give it a second thought.

Retarding the timing should do the trick, but do it in stages.
Keep retarding until pinging stops, then retard it a little more.
