i have tightened the nut on top of the steering box as much as i can withoit forcing it to far and i can still turn the steering arm with my hands about a 1/4- a 1/3 turn in either direction untill there is any resistance? . It is pretty sloppy while driving.

Replace it
I replaced my box the other week. It was sloppy too but got replaced cause it started leaking. The difference it made surprised me.
