carby dramas
carby dramas
Have a problem with my carby which is frustrating. Haphazardly, it will stall when coming to a stop. It drives normally, will restart first time but wont hold idle. All hoses are connected and ok, even took out the valve in the solenoid and it still does it. Any ideas?
Q.1) are the jets blocked?
Q. 2) is the fuel strainer just on the inside of the fuel inlet pipe blocked
Q. 3) is there shit floatong around in your fuel tank (blocking the pickup when the motor is going and falling off when the motor has stopped )
A. 1) remove and clean
A. 2) remove inlet pipe and clean
A. 3) take fuel hose off at carby and blow back through (with an air compressor)

carby dramas
Carby was rebuilt about 6 months ago, id be surprised if the jets are blocked. And if so, wouldnt i not ice it when im driving normally. The car is driving fine, its just when i come to a stop that it stalls.

It could still be a blocked idle jet , they only have a very small hole in the jet. Could even be water in fuel. Check fuel filter for water or dirt.

BUGGERED IT'S A TOYOTA THING
I'm having exactly the same problem, I have just put 65 litres of fuel in it so I hopefully don't have to waste it by draining it and cleaning out the fuel tank. I am going to get the carby rebuilt soon and replace the fuel filter if it has one. It was driving fine when I got it, it just started playing up after a 4wd trip.
If your fuel pump is old, or on its way out, bits of diaphragm can come loose and block the idle jets. I run an extra filter between carby and pump. I also use an EFI inline filter instead of the standard one. I run fuel cleaner in the tank occassionaly. I drain the fuel bowl on occassions. I suck the carby out every now and then (hand over inlet after a small rev).
I am going to try carby cleaner spray, I'm told it works wonders.
I reco'ed my carby also..
My new tank helped heaps, too.
I hardly ever have any probs now.

Carby issues
Hi,
My carby on my 1.3L suk is a piece of sh*t. It is constantly having troubles with idle and auto choke.
I have found how to fix eratic idle and strange running conditions though by having a look at the fuel mixer screw. Mine was slightly bent and looked a tad ragged, a couple of rubs with some sand paper and a hammer seemed to fix the idle!
Now the choke is cactus in conjunction with the low idle and high idle screws, each one effects the other.
Play just getting the car to start well and idle high with the choke shut for a while. Then work on once the car heats up that the auto choke flap opens and the arm opens also, then adjust the low idle, do this a few times and some day it will work!

This trick works for me all the time!
Take the air tingy off the top of the carby!
Start the motor and rev it and put your hand over the top!
Try not to let it stall but it might happen!
Do it a few times and your hand will be covered in crap and your jets will be clean!
