GU Dyno output
GU Dyno output
Just curius, has anyone had their GU/GQ 4.2 or 3.0 for that matter, run over a dyno. Was wondering some output figures, and how the truck goes. Mine's a 4.2, high flowed turbo pushing about 16psi, intercooled, had the pump and injectors recalibrated, runs an auxilliary fuel pump to prime the main pump. Dyno figures with 4.1 ratios and 35's was about 160 horses at the back wheels. Funny thing is that sometimes it seems to go like a rocket, other times it is pretty ordinary, in fact, my bros shit box 2.8 lux with import turbo bolted on, 4.3 ratio and 35's can give me a run for my money.....His mods cost him under $300 and mine, well I'm still paying for it....Has anyone else got some figures and how does your car go? I've got 4.6 ratios now and it had made a big difference - but I reckon it should still go better than it does.
There is a dude from finland with similar setup and he's pushing 200hp at the treads from memory.
So many something is a little suss in your setup.
Either way, 160 rwhp is quite a respectable figure, and I wouldn't be too worried if someone else is faster - you drive a fourbie, it's not how fast you get there, it's that you can drive anywhere.
If you want a 1/4 mile machine you are driving the wrong car

Mate, my GQ is Non turbo'd, but form what your saying i would sugest there msy be an issue there,
My GQ at the time of testing was running 4.1's and 33" rubber, so my gearing was out a little bit,
I have 2 Mates, one with a standard 2.8, and one with a turbo'd 2.8, both run 35's with matching gear ratios,
during a run along the F3, the turbo'd lux would pull away from me at a steady pace, but i would pull away from the non turbo'd lux at a steady pace,
a few figures that i read online a while ago,
a GQ patrol turbod you ben get around 140Kw
a turbod lux you get around the 90Kw,
standard GQ is about 88Kw,
so it comes to the power to weight ratio

Firstly to keep figures even, lets say if they are at the wheels or flywheel. Figures at flywheel can drop by up to 30% once they get to the wheels. Different brand dyno's and different temps of the day can also alter power figures. All vehicles tested should be in 4th gear or 3 in an auto.
Standard Gu turbo intercooled( morks) was about 70 rwkw (rear wheel kilowatts) after it had a 3 inch system fitted, after boost and fuel mods that was raised to 98rwkw.
Have seen 2 gq turbos, highly modified to get 150rwkw. A lot of work is require to get this.
Will look for some more and post.

whats mods did u do fot these results?
and are these results at the wheels or at the fly
if at wheels what turbo is on it

Well the mods are,
4inch snorkel, Custom Air box, GT30 Ball Bearing Turbo, Custom Exhaust manifold HPC Coated, Water to Air intercooler, Custom Inlet Manifold, Injector Pump mods and injectors, 3.5inch Turbo back exhaust, Port polished Head. Standard bottom end.

Our GU 4.2 Turbo Diesel has 150kw are the rear wheels with 4.6 gears and 35" X Terrrains. Costs alot of money to set up, but goes like a Turbo Petrol.
Has 4" Snorkel, Turbo Extractors, Custom Turbo, large front mount Intercooler, 3" Exhaust, rebuilt motor for turbo, pump & injectors by Diesel Tec running approx 18-20pd boost.
It can be done, just depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

Welcome Andrew & thanks for your help......

My setup is the same as morkz without the intercooler and under 9lb boost. It gets about 10kw less than morkz.

we fitted morkz 4.6 ratios and it made huge difference worth fitting even after tune mods makes it more enjoyable to drive.

but andrew did do the pump mods and tuning i believe.... nice setup but if u want 150kw at the rear wheels costs are around $6k

Thanks Fellas, my 160 is at the wheels and was with standard gearing. The 4.6 ratios make it nicer to drive and it goes a heap better so maybe I am getting a bit more grunt. Infortunately I picked up a load of shit fuel, and I reckon its not performing like used to. Good to hear there are som many other nuts out there with modded fuel pumps. I'm curious about the 3.5" exhaust.... Really worth it? 3's pretty big as it is and with no muffler is quite loud. Other thing i used to run about 18psi boost but we found that with less boost I am developing more power.. well that's what the dyno said anyway.

If you loose power with more boost you have
1. too much exhaust backpressure (bigger exhaust and/or larger
turbinehousing)
2. the injectionpump is too small (bigger plunger)
If you don`t have an EGT gauge, you should buy one.
