Looking for a kit of improved InterCooler for Montero 2800

Looking for a kit of improved InterCooler for Montero 2800
Helllo Monty,
Does anyone know if there is a improved InterCooler kit which can be purchased from any shop (bigger or cooler) than the original ones from Mitsui. It is for Montero 2800 Turbo Diesel Intercooler.
For someone who has modified the intercooler, I will be glad in hearing about your experiences, comments. How does the engine behaves? Does the engine have improved its HP and torque?
Cheers,
Rodolfo Neuhaus

I honestly don't know of any off the shelf intercooler kits for a 2.8TDI I think you would have to go custom built to get a larger more efficient cooler.
I just know of guys who have fitted larger more efficient exhausts, snorkels and raised the boost slightly by bleeding off pressure from the waste gate hose.

I have found a Spanish company which makes kit of intercoolers for Mitsubishi Montero 2.8. According to his advertisament, this bigger intercooler improves around 15% hp.

HI, we have a friend with a full front mount intercooler on a NL 2.8, it was all free flowing mandrel bends as well. Looked dam impressive, the grill was moved forward about 15mm and the bonnet latch moved back about 60mm, as I said, looked brilliant, but would have taken a fair bit of work. The inlet manifold was ground out on the inside to within mm's of its life to increse flow and boy did this thing go well, This really improved low end grunt. it was a 5 speed SWB and he reckoned it would keep up with his 5 LWB 3.2Did.
Just to show he's not bias , he also has a NJ 2.8 SWB with bigger top mount intercooler, and running more boost. The NL is EFI I believe, and harder to adjust boost. The NJ has more top end but the NL a better driver and from what i've seen it seemed so willing. Both are running 15psi with straight 3 inch exhausts.

I would like you contact with your friend so that he gives us the details about the parts (brand, sizes, etc.) he had bought and share us his experience about buiilding an improved intercooler. Does the intercooler has a bigger fan or not? How it is cooled, by air, water or some very cold gas such as the nitrogen? It would be very good to have the pictures on this forum about the modified intercooler and also of the manifold exhaust. I am very interested to learn them. Hope you convince him to join with us
Regards,
Rodolfo
P.S. Due to my ignorance about the slangs: I would appreciate anyone precise me about the meaning of these literals: NL, NJ, LWB, and SWB.

Sure, LWB = long wheel base, SWB = short wheel base
The other ones are Australian Pajero model designations.
The explanation is here :- http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=23638

I can try but they live alooong way away! The intercooler on his NL is front mounted infront of the radiator, it is an air to air one and i think he had it custom built to the size he wanted, that is the biggest possible to fit in the space!
The intercooler upgrade on the NJ which has a bigger top mount also has a bigger fan running under it on a seperate dash operated switch. HIs next plot is to get the headlight washers squirting onto the intercooler!

Good info. The Intercooler is mounted outside or inside of truck's mask? What is its size? Is it as big as the radiator ones? I see the back of mask there is space unless I remove the honks.

I think it is the most desirable. The spanish company which I have posted on the above, makes the intercooler like you mentioned. I am waiting for his reply to my e-mail. About the idea to squirt the headling washers onto the lamp is a very good idea. Sure, that air with water will help to cool faster to intercooler. However, its use must be moderate since the water reserve is smaller comparing to the ones of window washers.
About the dash intercooler fan swithc on the dashboard is a good candidate. I am too not sure about when the intercooler fan is activated. The other think I am thinking is to put some heat aislant under the intercooler so that it does not receive the heat from the engine...
