I´m using 15w40 engine oil in a 2.5 turbodiesel intercooled paj, and she has now 158000 km. May i change to a thicker oil like 20w50 or it´s better to use 15w40?

I would be using something like Mobil Delvac MX 15w 40 it's a good diesel oil and can be picked up for about $72.00 for a 20lt drum. This oil flows better than a 20w50 when cold. I know people who have been using it for years on T/D Pajero's with no problems. I hope this helps.

The difference between them is their range of environment temperature performance. For hot places, the recommended ones is 20-50W and for the cold places with 15-40w. The synthetic oil is the best ones protector for turbo Diesel since this leaves a thin film of oil when the engine is stopped and makes less friction to engine when it is started from cold temperature and its viscoty is more constant at a range of temperature than a non synthetic oil. I use Shell Rimula X oil which left me very surprised when I measured the 4 cylinder compresion that resulted to be at the range of 430-450 psi even the engine has over than 165,000 km.

No problem. The oil which you use is within the environment temperature range (20-35 C ). The synthetic Mobil oil is also a very good oil and its very width of range of operation is the strength of adaptability temperature of synthetic oil in order to protect the engine mainly from the cold start. If the environment temperature is within 15-50, the oil will be able to protect well engine from cold start. Otherwise (below than 15C or above than 50C) , the engine will suffer faster worn some initial friction when it is started from cold.

I use Penrite HPR Diesel. I do use a thicker oil like 20/60, which hasn't let me down, it seems to be a pretty good oil. You could also try Pentire HPR Diesel 15 which is 15/50
