What the????...no timing belt!!!

Post by Gee »

Just booked my triton (4M40) into diesel specialist for replacement timing belt and glow plugs and was told that this engine doesn't have a timing belt  - instead a timing chain which doesn't need replacing. It was news to me....is he right or has he started his weekend drinking a day early :?:
Meh...

4M40 means nothing to me, but if you mean 2.8 td, then yes he is right.
What kms has it done?, they have a very small crank sprocket and get high chain wear, so they do actually require changing.
I have only done 1 but the owner gained 1 gear up a hill with the power increase from everything timed right.

On my Galant, with a 4G32, I changed the timing chain several times by opening up the old and new chains, joining the two together, then turning the engine over (by hand!) to wind the new chain in.

Much easier than removing the timing cover.

Cheers,

Scott
