33's under a NT
33's under a NT
I'm just in the process of buying an '82 fun times NT that already has a spoa conversion using stocker leafs. It currently has 31x10.5's that rub on something at steering lock???, but I would like to change the rubber over to 255/85-16 eventually which is a true 33". I want this tyre because it is tall and also what I run on my DD/touring 4WD. What type of mods will I need to make these tyres fit. I would assume I need to use offset rims, and either get a body lift or cut guards and get flares. I take it the chassis tubes in front of the front wheels will also need to go. I don't particularly want more lift, just the rubber to fit rub free.
Cheers

your 31's would be rubbing on your leaf springs at full lock. to fit wide 33's you'd need a pretty decent amount of offset than you'll find your bearings will wear pretty quickly due to them being semi floating and not the full floating type, but saying that, there are plenty of fella's running around with massive offsets with no major problems . you'd probably need a 2" body lift , cheap if you do it yourself. or longer drop shackles .
and yes those front bars will need to come off ,didn't think they could still be on running 31's, learn something everyday. with them big tyres you might want to change your ring and pinion gears and or put in some rock hoppers. anyways rhe other fella's on here no a lot more about this than me so good luck and have fun

if its worth doing do it intensly , better still do it with MADPASSION

Location: in the sky , its a bird , its a plane ! No its super MOOSE !!!
speaking from my own x-periences !!!
1 .. do something with the gearing !!!
..... it wont be as bad as mine , NT have a 3.9 ratio !! I have 3.7 DOH !!!
2 .. DD or toy ?? keep it low , cut the gaurds & + flares !!!
3 .. leave the standard springs(flexy lil' farkers !!) , maybe go longer shackles !!!
HAPPY ZOOKING !!!!

i'm running 34 swampers on NTs. I have old man emu 2.5" rears all round SPUA, 2" body lift and heavily offset rims. I touch on full compression behind the headlights and a little bit of the inner fender. I have had this setup for around 2.5 years and haven't had any bearing problems. Also have 4.1 diff gears, 6:1 rockhopper transfer case, 1.5 5K engine
Ransom note = demand + collage
Thanks for the info fellas. I pick the sucker up tomorrow night.
The plan sounds like to cut the chassis tubes off at the front and go the cut guards + flares I think. By the sounds of it big offset rims also. I assume the rims are pretty straight forward to have made like the Sunraysia type rims.
Its good to get a plan together then attack!

i have a nt 1.0, std gears, with 2 or 3" lifted springs and longer shackles, and 33 x 9.5 bfg muddies on 15 x 7 std rims, the dont stick out past the guards, but 12.5's will. they rub on full compression all around the front wheel arches, and on the rubber fuel filler neck, i've had to zip tie it away from the tyre. the gearing ain't so bad, it's slow anyway!

I think ATM I will stay with the 31x10.5-15's. They are cheap and on there. Dosh needs to go into other fix ups.
BTW did everybody know besides me that the Sunraysias put on backwards give a track about 100mm wider, and stop tyre rub on the leaf springs so there is more turning!
