Hilux Diff Lokka Help

Post by whiteknight »

I am looking at getting front and rear lock-right lokkas for my 96 Solid Axle 2.8D Hilux. I visited http://www.rocky-road.com/lockright.html and am unsure of which ones i need, anyone able to clear this up for me?

Also heard that you can't put a lokka in a LSD ? is this the case?

Also am looking at moving my front axle forward an inch or so so I can fit on bigger rubber. Any instructions, hints on what is required would be appreciated..

There is a table on the site that will advise of which one.

As far as not being able to put a locker in an LSD - that is not true.

However, with many diffs you are essentially replacing the LSD with the locker. I am unsure baout the LOKKA brand itself - but I know a guy or two with a LOKKA locker and they definately had LSD before hand.

Sorry - my bad. I was looking at the ARB air lockers.

I checked 4wd systems (an aus supplier), and they didn't say either. Try emailing the company.

hey If you are looking at the lunchbox lokkers as the say in the US they go into your original diff carrier eg replace spider gears etc so i think that it would not work with a lsd maybe wrong tho.
If its the full lokka eg detroit nospin or ARB types they replace the whole carrier and the ring gear bolts to it the lokker itself so doesnt matter if a lsd or not kus you wont be using the carrier
Hope this helps

I cant tell you about which lokka you need, but on the rocky road site it gives you a table to choose from depending on spider gears etc. If you look at your plate that tells you model number frame numder you will see that there is a bit that says "trans/axle" and then has 2 codes stamped in. the second code is about your axles. In you truck it probably says "g282". "g" means 8 inch diff. "28" is your ratio (in this case 4.3). and the last number is about your spiders etc. "2" means 2 spider gears, open. "3" means 2 spider gears, lsd. "4" means 4 spider gears, open. And "5" means 4 spider gears, locker. Does that help?
Hope so.
Cheers.

I suspect that some time in the last 6 years Whiteknight has sorted it out.
