Post by simonwalker »

Putting a call out to you gear wizz kids

Vit auto trans
1--2.40
2--1.47
3--1.00
R--2.00
H--1.00
L--Rockhopper gear down 120%

Toy Diff ratios I could find on Web
4.10
4.30
4.56
4.88
5.29

What diff ratio would you use to get a good road speed(100kph)
For 31's
33's

5.71 aftermarket are available as well.

What do you mean by good engine speed? You'll want to be doing around 3300-3500, with 4000 rpm being stock (which was too short). 5th at 110 on 30's at 3400 was just liveable, but I struggled to pull 5th at times at 110 kph on 31"s with my vitara which is 3300 rpm... not talking big hills either.

If top is 1:1 like you're suggesting (3 speed) then
33's on 4.3 Toy diffs would be at 2800 rpm at 100kph which is way too low to have any go. 4.6's is 3000 rpm, and bundy 4.88's is 3100. 5.29 is 3400, which I think would be ok.

31's the figures are: 4.6= 3100 4.88=3300, 5.29=3600

Anything under 4.88 is basically gonna be a huge waste of time you'll be kicking back to second constantly.

I think you want 5.29 or 5.71.... or a sierra tcase and then 4.3 or 4.6 would be a doddle.

Yeah I'd say 31"s you want 5.29 and 33"s 5.71... but it is a strain on the R&P so 5.29 might be the best all round option.

Be cheaper too

dont know why you would bother going to toys if your only going to run 31s you probly wont gain any ground clerance i would only go to the trouble if you were running 33s+ if your after extra stability just get the rims flipped

I'm working on a 85 413 pickup currently stock, with NT diffs I'm looking at stability which is the reason for the possible change to toy diffs,I currently run the zuk to the left,2 inch spring lift & 31's,locker,s1 gear kit.
It also a NT and I feel it's as high as I wont to go without going wider and replacing wheel bearing gets a bit boring.
Other reasons for toy diffs---Can get hi pinion diff heads
---Can get E lockers---standard or hi pinion
---Have many gear ratio's
---more plentyful than Sammie/Sierra diffs

If going spring over so I'm thinking stay with NT diffs and swap every thing over or go toys and change motor/gearbox to Vit and run 33's.

Still wondering what toys come with 5.71 or are they custom made :)

found the 5.12 from hiace vans the go was running bfg32"muds
used to tow a camper as well with a/c ,p/s it used to cruise at 100kph
alittle breathless in the hills but livable
fixed it with injectionthen it was good

By the way 5.12 is also stock vitara gearing... so if you're running 31"s now you should have an idea what that means.

For a carby engine that means gutless.... more gutless than stock due to the extra weight of the lux diff.
