I have a 1HZ 100 series landcruiser dualcab with dts aftermarket turbo.Thinking of putting in a 6.5ltr chev from brunswick diesel.Could anyone out there that has had one of these conversions please send me info wether it be good or bad.Thankyou
Just pulled one out of my mates hj73, was a slug of a motor, although running 39 swampers, replacing with a injected 308, Use to have a lot of problems with it stalling, but this was fixed with reduction gears, I'd stick with the 1HZ,

I've been running a 6.2 from Brunswick for the last 3+ years, (on 33's) and havnt had a problem.
If you want torque and lots of it, go v8 diesel. If you want instant power, go petrol v8.

Just wondering if you have had any overheating problems with vehicle as it is quite warm in Darwin. Living Broome my 100 series gets quite warm if sitting on 110km or over.
Hey...my little worthless bit of input...spoke to someone who had just put a 6.2 in his GU patrol and i asked if brunswick did the install...he said no and that he'd bought it off them and had someone else do it cause brunswick were having some issues with their installs. Just something to add...who knows how true. How long you been in Broome for? I lived there for 15 years out at coconut well...wish that i hadn't been moved to perth for school courtesy of the folks.

Cheers. Been living in Broome for 12 years, working in Pearling. My girlfriend's friends have lived at Coconut wells for years, their surname is Stewart do you know them?
the 6.5 chev is a good swap BUT it is all going to depend what you want out of it ....
IMO the 6.5 Diesel revs hard like a petrol but the redline is around 3800RPM so it doesnt have the top end you would expect .
if you want a highway cruiser or a rock crawler the its definately a good choice
before i bought mine i took a rebuilt 2H (bad comparison i know) for a thrash ... just trying to figure out if the 3800RPM limit would be an issue. i thought they would be simillar (sort of). but the 6.5 has 4 times the grunt ....only 2 seconds per gear to go thru the 5 speed. Good highway overtaking power and can idle along in 5th doing 60.
having said that i am still looking at a supercharger for mine and an auto gearbox

Thanks Matt. What I need to know is this engine going to have the same or better power/torque than my motor without the hassle of over-heating and crap fuel economy.
i havent driven a turboed 1hz but i would say it would have more power and torque BUT if the 1hz is still ok ??????
as for the overheating ... i wouldnt think it would be an issue.. mine is a radiator from a 75 series diesel and i would assume your 100 series has better quality radiator ?????

The only prob with heat I've had is sitting on 140 kph in the middle of the day during Jan, the gauge sits on about 3/4's. (normally sits on a 1/4.) thats with winch, bar and lights on the front, and average weight of 3 tonne. If I back off to 110-120 it'll drop back down to half on the gauge.
and fuel economy.....6.5 - 7.5 kpl
