1HDFT jap import
Are these engines any good and will they go into 100 series lancruiser standard 1HZ
the 1HDFT is the multivalve turbo diesel found in late model 80 series and early 100 series.
They are a very good and strong motor and still mechanically injected which makes them easier for a conversion.
They should (will) drop straight in place of a 1hz, you will need to modify some electrics but it should all be plug in (if you have a late 80/100series 1hz)
How much have you been quoted for one?
With a jap import you never really know what your getting so the warranty they give (if they give) is valuable.

Hi
I know of people who have done this conversion...you need a box and transfer aswell, as the r150 in the hzj105 is a PRADO BOX.....yes it will fit, but you will be redoing it...soon.....get an 80 series or a petrol 100 or a t/d 100 box for it.... these are h151 boxes and have a different transfer aswell
to the r150. Even a h150 out of a 1hz 80 series would be good (better lower ratios)
The glow plugs arnt a problem, the hdft doesnt have any, just a heating element for the intake that is removed when a safari intercooler is fitted here in oz and is supposedly an emissions thing, so there is no ptroblem starting these motors even in the snow season without this....
Your 1hz starter will fit the hdft and as the add says......its all good!
Andrew
ps ive heard a place in Brisvagas imports these motors for about 10k.
Minus the 3 you will get for the hz, and your up there with the new t/d 100.

Brisbane Imports have two for $10500 each. Both come with gearbox/transfer .

I have put a 1HDFt in my 80 series (1HZ GXL). peice of the proverbial.
Use the 1HZ loom onto teh 1HDFT sensors. FTE uses injection computer not the FT. E = electronic.
The only computer on Jap 1HDFT is for EGR. Aus does nto require EGT connection. I ditched the EGR manifolds when I fitted a Safari Intercooler anyway.
BTW The Jap loom does not plug into the Aus dash loom for a 1HZ.
My engine was sourced with gearbox and transfercase. However it was (for Japan) a rare 5 speed.
You can use 1 HZ gearbox if you use a 1HZ flywheel and a heavy duty 1HZ turbo clutch.

Yeah thanks for that info. What sort of power/torque are you getting and whats the fuel ecconomy like.

I am ashamed to admit it but I haven't had it dynoe'd since putting on the 3" exhaust. I'm pretty sure I'd be close to the figures Safari quote of 164Kw and 470Nm however when i get my act together I will really know.
Economy varies obviously and I run a OME lift, BFG MT's and LR tank dual rear wheel carrier etc so am very heavy. Heading up the Cape late last year with roofrack on I averaged just on 13l/100km on the highway at 100-115kph. Offroad I picked up easy 15l/100km average for the whole trip including several days in low range in Maytown and sand driving at Cape Melville etc.

dow50r wrote:Gday Craig.....mmmmm.....you really must get that dyno done to see if the fuel is getting to the pump ok....
Andrew
EGT's are good and power is good so I think i can safely say that fuel is getting to the pump okay. I really should have had pre and post runs on a dyno for each mod to really say, however I am as fast as a mate with an Aus spec 1HDFt with Safari and 3" exhaust so I guess that is as good as you really need.

lol...secrets safe with me mate...
Thanks Andrew
I've moved twice so if you have it let me know. Of course it was with IC and without exhaust. More than a 1HDT and all messed up. Certain mate just rang telling me about his modded CT26 turbo that just arrived from the Netherlands.

standard supra turbo, but a ct20 back on it and it will boost from about 1100rpm with good power.
