Thinking About Spring Over.
Thinking About Spring Over.
Ok well now i dont have the highest zook in town anymore which makes me moderately unhappy but its good to see another person getting into zooks. Ok well hes gone spring over axle and is running 33" Mongrels. My question is. Seeing as my zook is already illegal and therefore insurance void if i do something thats not a problem. Also the fact that i have 31" tyres and extended shackles and a not certified body lift i figure if i ditch the body lift and jsut go longer shackles and spring over its gonna look only moderately more illegal then it currently does. and also what police are really going to know if sierra's are spring under or spring over factory? I could just tell them its lifted springs and well the tyres im done for anyway. So whats your thoughts? Whats the steering like with spring over axle? Also do you think that guys diffs and drive shafts are gonna hold up to 33" tyres cause thats also on the cards. All opinions welcome and yes i have already searched but didn't find everything i want.

as toos said - do you really need it?
if its just for looks, keep the body lift...
height is a curse - you are better keep it low as possible to JUST clear the tyres when flexing - lower COG means less rollover chance.
im soon to put 'lux springs under to give 4" lift and plently of flex. 4" cos thats all thats needed for a 31 to move nicely. no point in going SPOA as its just too tall for a 31. no need for bigger than a 31 either as im not tackling anything that requires more diff clearance than what a 31 can offer.

I have just gone Spoa. Will be running 32 TSL/SX's on the zook axles, but i dont hold a great faith that the zook axles will hold up too well, as i mainly drive rock. I', removing the 2inch BL that i currently have from my spua days. If ya gonna go spoa, i would recomend keeping flat springs and no BL. Better off triming the guards and keeping it stable. Widening the track would also be worthwile to, flipped rims or spacers. Im still sorting out my steering, but stay away from the z-link if ya can. Better off to go x-over or high steer. There is also a cheap way to do x-over with a mercedes benz 126 model steering arm, just search for mercedes in the zook section. The jury is still out on how good the mounting setup on the brake caliper brackets will go.

sounds all about correct.
I would stay 2"sus and 2" body and run 33's like dewse did.
also more stable on some terrain.
Lay80n - still havn't got the BL out yet
cheers

i run spoa 32s 2in bl its definately not unstable and believe me ive pushed the side angles real hard at times ive had calliper mounted high steer from overkill for about 12 months no worries yet and i run front diff welded so theres plenty of stress on it.if ya run rockhoppers youll be surprised how well the stoc running gear holds up,12 months not even a broken cv,and i run 1ltr nt diffs i get width from heavy offset wheels.most of my driving is rocks and rutted hill climbs.hope this has been helpful.

a stock toy front wont cos its set for the weight of the car... zuk is much lighter so leaves will be removed. also moving springs inboard about 2".
i know its 4" lift cos ive taken a spring and measured it next to a stocker =)
Pics of a zuk with lux fronts in: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23425&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90
Its basically the australian equivalent of the YJ conversion... almost the same length spring, and cheap n easy to find over here like the YJ in the US. Not putting lux rears in rear cos i want equal amount of flex all round - and a lux front is already about 6" longer than stock zuk rear! =P

just cos they are the close to the same length dosent mean they are gunna flex the same the yj leafs are nice and thin were the toys have alot thicker leafs
i think the diahastsu ferozas are alot closer to yj's then toy fronts
alot of people have tried toy fronts on pirate and they dont flex worth a shiat

alien wrote:hmm interesting.. well, ill give the lux leaves a go... if theyre crap its not too hard to put feroza ones under there instead =) there will be a buildup thread when its started hopefully.
also by running lux diffs with just 31s you will lose a fair bit of ground clearance as the diff pumpkin is considerably bigger than a Sierra's. If yoyu are going to the trouble to go Lux diffs you may as well make it worthwhile and go a 34 or 35"

i didnt say anything about lux diffs =P thats down the track more...
just keeping it low n lazy... SPUA on std diffs, but using lux leaves for more articulation and 4" lift =)
down the track, should i decide to go lux diffs (i prolly will) then its just a case of chucking the new diffs under with re-mounted perches... imagine the lift with a lux diff SPOA on lux leaves! lol it'd be like 9" or more lift... have to run 35's just for it to look normal.
