Fox racing shocks are good. But at a billion dollars (this is approx) a corner not real cheap.
There are not that many brands that do up to this hieght and have the right open and closed lenghts. Think Toughdog and ranchos are the main players in these sizes.
Only problems is you need to twin the ranchos on each corner so they can take the wieght of a patrol (this is rumour, supposed to be from Allience though).

mate there is also pro comp shocks which i have seen in competition truck of a mate and they are awsome great travel but not so much as your spring becomes loose and have a great level of comfort if matched to the right spring (dobinsons are a good match to these shocks )

The guy who bought my MTR's off me this afternoon had tough dog shocks and he reckoned they were great so maybe I should get a price for them aswell. I will see what I can do..
It is hard to choose because you hear good and bad things about nearly everything. I suppose no product is perfect. Have a good week

the problem with shocks, is evryone hears a roumour about one brand, and they keep spreading it,
your best bet is to find people local with similar setups and go for a ride, and see if there is any difference,
I have Ranchos in my GQ with 6" lift, and my old man has Ranchos in his GU with 6" lift, and they work well, mind you, we donthave them set for on road abilities, they are always set for bush work, with the fronts on 1 and rears on 3, so your trucks are pretty soft and bouncy, like riding on slinkies,

Still havn't found out prices for 6 inch lift (hopefully tomorrow), but for a 2 inch lift GQ $185 each for Blistein and Koni's.

Buy Chris's TD. That's a good deal. The shock that you will need for a 6" lift is very different to a shock for a 2" lift. Rancho etc don't make shocks in the small 35mm bore that suit a 6" lift. $ is not always a guide.
If you run a 6" lift you will more than likely not run swaybars either. I did a lot of research when I upgraded a fortnight ago, and spoke to many people, and eventually decided on the TD 9 ways for my car. See the link in my sig to pics of my car. I paid $520 which was the cheapest I could find them at short notice.
Also, a lot of manufacturers won't warranty the 6" or higher shocks because of the extreme nature of their use. I got a warranty with mine, from Mannells.
I currently have them with no swaybar running on 6.

....
Get a set of Binskins F.A.T shocks for his 6" lift kit.
They are a Procomp es9000. My old man has 4" lift (Lovells springs and Procomp shocks) for his shorty. They rock, last forever and are cheap.
His Jaffa SWB UTE (Which he sold for $25000 recently along with his shop) which was previously that really sweet looking blue soft top, had the same procomp gear in it for like 3 outback challenges.
So that says something for longevity...plus every GQ/GU in wauchope port macquarie has the F.A.T stuff underneath it.......
thats my 2cents
You could ring most places and ask for there shocks that are mated to their 6 inch kits.
I have a 4" tough dog lift and hate it. - it has sagged 1" in the ass end in a year (I don't tow anything) and the shocks are to big and rough at any setting. DAMN you BBMotorsport and DAMN you my lack of knowledge when buying my kit !!!!!!!!

Bubbles,
I would suggest that the TDs are unsuitable for a lift like 4" Ranchos, Koni, Bilstein and the like are more suitable for that. They have a smaller bore and softer valving than the TDs. At 6"+, your car needs a lot more support and the travel of the shock needs to be greater too.
CB
You need to see in your handbook (manual) as to the standard height of your car, then with the springs installed, see what it sits at. That is effectively the height of your lift. Also, you need to try ramping it and measure what distance it is when the coil becomes loose. Then back off about 20mm. That is the maximum leangth that your shock should extend to.
If you are running a 6" lift, I would recommend the TDs. I am happy with mine. Make sure you get a warranty with them though. If you need any more help, let me know.

IF the TDs break, return them. I have not heard of this issue with them. I have heard that they can have leakage problems around the dial for ride quality.
Listen mate, ALL shock have some tendancy to have a problem. Maybe the ones that broke at the mount were not matched to the spring ride height and were too short or too long, or incorrectly fitted. This could happen to any shock.
Like I said, make sure you get a WARRANTY and that they are matched to ZYOUR cars ride height. Measure compression and full drop without any shocks in. Give these measurements to a stockist and ask them to recommend a shock.
Good luck, and don't believe everything you hear or read...
