Hi. I kind of jumped the fence from the Toyota section to ask a little advice :roll: :roll:

Is it possible for someone to post a picture of their standard Rangie A frame ball joint set up? Just wanting to know if one will work on the A frame in my Surf.

Got a question, whats the middle arm on the A frame for? Is it to "catch" the diff if the ball joint breaks?

i'm pretty sure thats the arm for the "boge" self leveling unit, like a big shock absorber that when the rangie is loaded up actulay increases the ride height back to normal, most will say that they don't work and are not needed. they probably rob articulation only found on rangie's and LR 110 counties. not on disco,s or defenders

It worked.

A nivomet shock, was heavy valved in one direction and lighter valved when car moved up.

Basicly it carried aprox 1/3 rear weight of car allowing the use of very soft rear coils.

But if yuou raise car 50mm pluss it does not work.

If you remove you will need to fit heavier coils.

I have a 91 rr that has the leveling unit . I have different coils in it , unsure as they were in when I got it . The self leveling still seems to work as when I dump my trailer on the back of it it hops right back to were it was . The trailer has a very heavy ball wieght , that was way out of limits for my old isuzu when I had it but ok for the rangie . Tows dam well though .
Must look into how it works fully one day . Can see the possiblity of it robbing artic though , not a good thing .

The Rangie Joint gives good artic, but the story goes it binds in high lift/droop conditions.
A Joint that I have worked with over the past 10yrs is avaiable from John @ suspensiondevelopments@paradise.co.nz
They are a rebuildable spherical ball unit and available in many different sizes and guises and very well priced.
