rover 3.5 litre v8 in a series?

rover 3.5 litre v8 in a series?
i was put on to the rover 3.5 coz of its alloy build for weight,
what r the other advantages to it? Anyone put one in a series 3? Want to edge away from the 4sp gearbox as well but would like PTO potential so i can keep my 8000pd thomas. Anyone know anything? Prices for a immaculate and a needs rebuild state engine?

I have a Stage I V8, nice to drive and well worth it. but I am also building up a project Landy, Series Body on a cut-down RR chassis.
If you want a V8, do what Mick said, fit your body to a RR, get disc's, coils and your V8 and better gearbox, wider track, stronger diff's.

is this a 88" or 109, if its an 88 you can"t put a v8 in and have it road legal,
if it is a 109 you can go to 4.6l v8 only wothout proir approval in thius case you will have to let transport inspect it

both are of too much time or too much money for my student priced, dole bludging wallet...
the 3.5L v8 can be bought for about 500 bucks....

A RR complete even with rego is $3000. It comes with everything you need. just mount the body to it.
BUT if you want the V8 in your 88 I suggest you think about these few things
all the newer gearboxs/transfercase combo's (auto and manual) are alot longer than the 4 speed box you have now, so your already short propshaft (rear) gets made shorter...okay so you mount the engine further forward and run a defender front end, but the rear shaft will still be as short, if not shorter than it is now.
A 5 speed box will cost you a good $2500 with transfercase. And a ZF will be around the same price.
An LT95 is a 4 speed box and is strong (built for the army originally) but again is longer than a series box. Can mount a PTO to it, I have a Stage I with this box and a PTO winch for it. The V8 and LT95 with the Defender front end (engine forward) would leave you with roughly the same length tailshaft you have now.
People have used the series landy 4 speed box with the 3.5L V8 without it breaking, but I don't recommend it (just look at the size of the gears in an RR box and a Series box and you will see what I mean.
For price and best fit I would go for a 3.5L V8, LT95 combo with a defender front end (well bonnet) and fit 3.54 diffs if you want good cruising speed (110kph at 3000rpm) and keep the 4.7's if you want crawling ability
Also you need to stop the vehicle after the mod. So you need to atleast fit the Stage I front drum breaks (11" diametre and 2.5" wide) or maybe upgrade to disc, I am currently working on a front disc conversion for series landys using RR swivels and brakes.

Apparently there are new QLD regs regarding body swaps - all swaps now have to be fully engineered and approved directly by transport. If you can convince the approvals guy that you have put a series body on a 110/defender chassis (all bolt on - no welding) then you can probably get away with it.
