Okay...
- I have no leaks (that I can see, or notice any puddles on the ground).
- The overflow is not getting any higher.
- The radiator progressively gets lower and lower
- Have replaced the radiator cap.
- There is some moisture coming out of the exhaust - I am not sure if this is normal with LP gas vehicles, but there is definetly moisture coming through the exhaust.
Would it make sense that my head gasket could be on it's way out ?
The engine runs smooth as, I have no problems with overheating or anything, just it's using water and I'd like it not to.
Kingy actually said that the head gasket in these engines tend to go in 5th and 6th, anyone else had experiences with this - does it sound like what you had?
Don't really want to pull the head off if I don't have to - but worst case I will nurse the engine for a couple of months til I have the time to get into it.

L28 Using Water
moisture out the exaust is normal on petrol and LPG motors when the engine is cold.
If when your motor is at operating temp........ the moisture is still coming out the exaust pipe,
Then u have a weepy head gasket which is weeping into the combustion chamber then out into the exuast..........
L28 motors are quite easy for headgaskets, i wouldnt think u could get much easier in a 6 cylender.
just make sure u change it before u lift the rig cause i personally hate standing on the tyre to work on the motor

It's still holding good compression, does that mean anything?
if it doesnt overheat much, id say its not too bad.
i reckon u can get away with it for a coupla months just keep topping it up and keep an eye on it.....
maybe put a bottle of chemiweld in there, that may just fix it seeing as its such a slight weep.

Can't hurt anyway - the other thing is the radiator cap might be a peice of shit and pushing the water out when it's hot, but not sucking it back thru when it's cold and the level goes progressively down?

Yeah I don't think it's rising, but then it could be - need to check it in daylight.

and the cap is new, but the radiator is for the diesel engine, or could even be from a different car altogether - the filler is on the wrong side for the L28.
The car came to me with no overflow, I went and bought one from wreckers.
I swapped it over to the passenger side today and shortened the hose, will see if it makes any difference.

Actually, now that the overflow is on the other side and working, it's sucking water through ok - which is good.
The sucky part is that it is using water, and it's using quite a bit basically emptys the overflow in 1/2 days.
So chemiweld it is, then new head gasket maybe next weekend.
