Location for a cb

Where do you have the CB radios mounted in the car?

I have a soft top and was thinking the only available spot is on the plastic tray under the glovebox.

Are there any other locations?

The standard stereo is crap but it is all that I have and some music is better than none so I want to keep it

Mine is on the side of the tranny tunnel. been thinking of moving it to under the glovebox or in the centre console compartment, and remote the speaker and mic plug onto the dash.

I have a ext speaker on the dash already and the 4200 uses rj12 plugs on the front to extend the plug.

Mine is mounted in the dash just above the holy sh*t bar,the dash has been cut out for the cb to sit in it. Not sure if you want to do this to your dash though.

i took out the ash tray and slid it in there
looks fatory

its a tight fit but its the go

Mine is mounted at the back of the drink holder between the front seats.

I have done the same thing as rb. take the console section of the dash off and you can slide the uhf in from behind that way you dont need to cut anything and its harder to steel. its a perfect fit and is tight enough so it wont move oround when its bumpy. :cool:

Sweeeet... How much did you guys pay for your units?

I got a Uniden in my triton which i'll be selling for a smaller size for the zook.

Edit #2: Ok, from RB's unit : Dimensions are: 145 x 45 x 140mm
For anyone thats interested like me! thats the size to fit in an ash trap compartment

Your dash layout is slighty dif to the older ones, the old ash trays are 1/2 that size, thats y i though it was a tiny one lol.

BTW: The old ash trays are 130mm wide, 15mm narrower than later model dash. Hardly what you'd call half the size LOL... Just have to find a UHF thats slightly smaller in width...

I have a remote head unit and the head is mounted above the rear view mirror and the rest is hidden under the dash.

Real easy to see and quick access for the mike.

I have a remote speaker mounted on the rollover frame on the drivers side.

Works for me

My ashtray is only 95mm wide. i think u can get ultra micro ones that small.

Yea i don't think people with these models put them there lol. in the high roof ones just put a board across above the doors and mounts the Cb and some speakers up there.

We're doing this to conversion over the weekend on our white zook

So, we'll have a crappy brown '90 model dash for cheap if anyone wants it LOL!

PS; it will fit the 128mm CB in the ashstray, probably

best thing i ever did was fit a coily steering wheel to my sierra, i had to cut the circle bit with the pins off of the old steering wheel and weld it to the back of the coily one for the blinkers to still click back

i had to hack alot of this dash to fit my head unit :twisted:

when you put your windscreen frame back down make sure you silicon around the holes at both ends because when i had mine off like that it wrecked the seals and water would run down the frame and into those holes through the cracked/lifted sealing pad and down through into the golvebox and stuff

...it's a sierra! Designed to leak no matter what, LOL!
We'll seal everything best we can, but really not too concerned with this rig ... it's going to be hose-outable anyway.

On the topic of leaky windscreens; When i bought my hardtop many years ago (brand new car) it leaked water badly into the glovebox, undertray foot wells etc within the first 6 months i had it... I was not happy. What p!ssed me off was that the Suzuki dealer in Adelaide couldn't find anything wrong with it... saying 'we sprayed it with a hose at high pressure and nothing leaked blah blah..." They didn't want a bar of it, didn't want to think about! In the end it was a combination of problems, mainly the windscreen being a loose fit and not sealing properly caused it to flex, sucking in water. You could actually press on the windscreen in and out to see how it was drawing in the water. Finally sorted the problem with a large amount of black silastic, and a big :finger:

to Suzuki City for being so narrow minded....
