Chassis Swap

Post by POIDA »

I'm planning to buy a 92ish surf. The only problem is I thought a solid axel would be a nice idea if I wanted to take it to the extreme. I've seen on here that a few people have done chassis swaps and I thought perhaps using an older, solid axel chassis under the surf would be an easy and legal way of doing it in queensland. If thats practical, my major question is, can you swap a chassis out legally because they have the body no stamped in the chassis. That makes me think you shouldn't be allowed to do it. Has anyone actually sussed the legallity of a chassis swap??

Keep the Surf Chasis, rear 5-link coil already.
Put in a bundera front solid axle, factory toyota parts and the
Engineer will love you for it.
It would be quicker to do a SAS than a Chasis swap.

You can, you need to go to the police for a surrogate vin. It is the method used when cars are stollen and then recovered with their compliance plate removed. Also used on statutory write offs where its easier to swap the cab than repair the damaged one. Id sas it though personally. I think swapping a whole surf body would be a bitch of a job.

I have been led to believe that the forerunner and surf chassis are about 30mm different in lenght.
P.S I have a mate with a surf for sale.

I have done searches on SAS. The reason for my question was I saw someone say the SAS was not legal in Queensland. Correct?
