Im picking up my 4x2 SR D.Cab 4.0 V6 Auto next week and ive had a few hiluxs over the years and this is the best by far. Its got Power, Comfort, Handling and looks that grow on you. Best Lux by far.

Well see what happens by the end of the year, and if Nissan dissappoints me i will go the Lux. ;)

I'd be checking your sources. Think in the latest overlander or 4x4 australia mag theres talk of a new 2.5 litre turbo diesel  :? :? :?

The 175kw is definantly a step up from the previous engines. This is more powerful than the base model commodore/falcon utes isnt it? in which case, low lux's might actually be worth ricing up from now on :P

Standard falcon ute is 182Kw :D

Yeh, but id have a 175kw hilux over a half-assed ute like a falcon or commodore any day. Plus i guarantee the diff is stronger in a hilux that the crap wet paper-mache thing they put in fords and holdens.

i wouldn't buy the 4x4, but the 2x4 as a street ute with a big set of wheels on it would look awesome. i know it would be a ricer, but almost everything is going in that direction now days.

pity the "true" wheeler isnt at the top of te design chain!

New Lux

Post by Rich »

Its looks outstanding.

Toyota are already boasting record sales and the waiting list is getting longer and longer.

Pity it does not have electronic traction control, and a sunroof (or moon roof as toyota call them) options.

Everyone I talk to in the 4 wd club loves the look.

The new Pathfinder gets the 2.5 litre turbodiesel with around 128Kw. I still stand by my sources and think a 3.3 litre Turbodiesel is coming soon.
Time will tell.

I went down to my local dealer today to have a good look. No test drive have to wait until next week. TD Auto all the way for me.
Small dealer in a country area. They only had 3 buses...
Plain Jane Single cab TD 2WD,
SR single cab TD 4WD cab chassis,
SR5 dual cab V6 4WD.

First impression is that I do like the modern, sleek look. A very drastic change for the Hilux series. The past generation differences have been very conservative, well Oz spec anyway.

Certainly nicer looking first up from when I first saw the new Rodeo - for which the look has grown on me; I love the LT models.
The Navara's already looking dated.

The interior's dash and trim is also modern. Very European. I like it.
First Hilux where you don't need to rip out the wireless first thing. 6 stacker indash with MP3, nice.

I must say the new vehicle is bloody huge inside and out. Very wide. Even the dual cab's styleside tray was enormous in all three dimensions.
The 2WD looks quite funny though. Here you have a now, large bodied vehicle still running on 14inch cheese cutters.Very disproportionate.

The cab chassis 4WD was on a high mount stand so I could walk underneath to have a good look-see. Low and behold, it's still a Hilux underneath afterall, albeit with the new coil overs on the independent front. Suits me to a tea, I only really do beach work with me cars.

New Hilux

Post by V6XtraHilux »

saw this turbo diesel 3.0 one on the weekend, up at the Kowmung in the blue mountains. guy had it since Thursday and couldnt control himself, had to show off to all his mates, im sure i heard lots of things banging and smashing going up the southern entry to the Kowmung, mustve hit it at 30kph!! dickhead

had alook inside, lots and lots of plastic, but didnt look anywhere as plush as the Prado, etc, its still a work truck afterall. Engine looked good, had that big plastic head thingo on the engine, that is so common on new motors these days, like the V8 in the holdens and fords. turbo was mounted down near the bottom of the engine on the right hand side, not a good place if its steaming and u drown the bugger in mud or water!

pic.....

personally i dont like the look, up close it was sitting low, looked like the new Rodeo, and the lady inside even agreed with me!! not much room under the guards for tyres, unless u jacked it up, but from what i saw, the rear leafs are the same as my 2003 lux, but the IFS was a bit different, wishbones didnt look as strong or beefy like mine.

shame they dont stick coils in the back....as an option even!!

enough said!

New Td Auto Lux

Post by Rich »

Has anyone on here driven the new Turbo Diesel Auto Hilux ?
I am after some opinions on what the auto goes like ?
The manual is pretty powerful, but finding a TD Auto to test drive is bloddy impossible, scarce as hens teeth !

Please PM me if you have any info on the TD Auto and how it performs.
Thanks.

from what ive picked up, the front end is pinched directly from the prado...should get 2-2.5" lift out of it without too much damage to the CV's

Tho on the looks side of things.... i think ill keep my 1992 LN106!
2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.

Typical of a ricer built in Thailand. What would you expect? Perfomance wise it could only be better than the 3.0TD.
