how hard is it to replace the front b/discs on a sportrak

Not hard, but while you are there you may as well service the wheel bearings, and the locking hub.

Just take everything out in order and lay it out on newspaper. Then as you put it back in its just a reversal of the process.

But make sure you have a 50mm socket before you start as your gonna need one to undo the wheel bearing retainer nut. I've just replaced the wheel bearings in mine. I hate wheel bearing grease! :bad-words:

I made my own tool for the job, out of a piece of old flared exhaust pipe, hammered to fit, then hose clamped to be tight.

I couldnt find anywhere that had a 50mm socket or tube spanner. Pics below.

Was it difficult to work out how tight to do up the nut?

I just did it up as tight as possible and worked the hub around a few times then checked it for free play, if there is free play you should be able to tighten it a bit, if its too tight loosen it off.

If your star nut is rooted buy new ones. Otherwise I found that the nuts would loosen themselves after a while.

If you actually have to replace the wheel bearings, Its probably easier to unbolt the upright from the wishbones. This way you don't need a deep dish 50mm socket. Just a normal one as the drive shaft won't be poking out the centre.
