Hi guys
Gonna rewire headlamps and add two spotties on 94gq. I need a drawing as I am dyslectric. Do I need 2 five blade relays for headlight circuit and a four blade for spots. Are earth connections on spottie and headlamp connections brought back to relay connection 85
For the headlight relays do I need the five blades with two 87 terminals.
All seems like VOODO to me. Will I go to hell for messing with all this stuff.

Any help appreciated guys.Does negative switching just mean that instead of headlight connector 31 (ground) going to a part of the body it comes back to relay switch output 85.

Thanks Alex

Without knowing exactly what you already have, it's difficult to give accurate advice. Hopefully some general tips might help.

Positive switching: +12V -> (switch) -> globe -> ground

Negative switching: +12V -> globe -> (switch) -> ground

(switch) can be either literally a switch, or the contacts of a relay.

The easiest way to re-wire headlights is to connect a relay coil where the "globe" is, then install a new circuit using the relay contacts as (switch).

If you're gonna do low beam as well as high beam this concept would use four relays. This gets a little expensive, and crowded under the bonnet. To save on components, only install one relay for high beam and another for low beam, then you just wire both low beams to the low beam relay, and both high beams to the high beam relay.

Adding spots is harder to describe without a drawing. Normally they're connected so that they will only turn on when high beam is on. So you need to install the spotties relay coil in parallel with the high beam filaments, so that the high beam relay you just installed switches one side of the relay coil, and your spotlight switch is in series on the other side of the coil.

For negative switched high beams:
+12 -> spotties switch -> spotties coil -> high beam relay contacts -> ground.

For positive switched high beams:
+12 -> high beam relay contacts -> spotties coil -> spotties switch -> ground.

I hope some of the above made sense. Hopefully somebody clever can post a few pictures.

Cheers,

Scott
