Tails lights for custom tray

Hey guys, almost finished my custom tray and I'm just wondering what sort of tail lights I should be going for. I've seen a lot of different ones on here (hign n mighty with the long cool looking ones, and aza's sorta plain looksing ones off a standard flat tray) and yea I was wondering what people think should be used?

What are the legal issues in the sort you use? If possible I'd like to have something other than the standard ones, more like high n mightys or something like, 6 big round ones or something other than normal you know. Also what are the chances of picking something up which could plug straight into the existing plug thats there, for minimul re-wiring.

what does your tray look like, and what sorta mounting spots do you have. i like the look of the round LED's one for each light. i think ludicris has it done that way.

I have Super cheap ones like Aza's because they are easy & quick to fix replace when you smash them against a boulder or ledge.

Halfway through making LED inserts for them though.

my tray looks just like custom hilux's tray

i really want round ones yea like ludacris', but like i have NO knowledge in the wiring at all so i sorta want ones i can just plug into the wires that are already there, and preferably use the plug to

Go the LED's, they are dearer dut thy are heaps better and look shat hot.

Truck supply places and bus spare places - they both will stock nice looking lights which are fking cheap.

Try those.

your hilux looks like a copy of my mates
same year, same tyres, same amount of lift, dual cab, custom tray, but hes hasnt got the angle bits.

I bought a couple of trailer LED lights last week. Very robust and waterproof.
Only $69 each (combination brake/night/indictor)
Got them at an auto electrical place in Brisbane.
This is as cheap as I could find which were fully sealed.
ADR approved.

If you get lights like this I suggest you either put them where they wont get clobbered or protect them with strong surrounds.

I got the Hella LED's on mine, they look pimped but they arent cheap. They are fully sealed so you can get them wet and muddy til your hearts content.

nice lights man, where did you pick those up from? what's the price? are they a combo light?

your hilux looks like a copy of my mates
same year, same tyres, same amount of lift, dual cab, custom tray, but hes hasnt got the angle bits.

yea that one isnt mine, that's custom hilux's rig. i was just pointing out i have the same sorta tray.

how much they set u back?

also, what sort of connection do they have? will they plug straight into the plug thats standard on the lux?

Snake racing sell them for $195 each which is about the going price on them.
You may be able to get them a little cheaper through a trucking company supplier.

I will post pics of my LED trailer lights when I get home tonight.
I think they are better than the Hella ones - a mate has Hella on his jetski trailer and one leaks and is rooted.
Both my LEDs and the Hella's dont have reverse - but you can use a work light(s) for that.

I cant find any pics of my LEDs online so I will take photos.

Very happy for $69ea...

$69 does sound a bit more in my price range. just a bit sceptical about no reverse light, cos i would have NO idea how to wire up a work light for reverse

you could always just buy a set of altezza lights for a styleside n put the on there side so they side horizontally. they look pretty sick!

Just a matter of hooking it up to the old reverse wires, works well.

The LED combos are rather pricey, but i got em for xmas :finger:

Mine is the 80BAR. The ones with the reverse are a bit pricy - better off with the work light.
I have a Narva work light inside my custom rear bar. Piss easy to wire up - just run a lead from your rear light loom. I would check the reverse light regulations for your state (anyone know?)

I bolted it to the inside of the cross member so it doesnt get bashed off by a rock or something, it has survived so far where it is

im changing mine , moving them in the center and putting a plate over the top to make them round, beebee stlye lights :cool:

basicly all u do is use them cheap ass lights i have and put a piece of steel with holes in it over the top, cheap round lights that look good :armsup:

QLD diesel spares at Burpengary, Brissie selem for 159.80, and they have the whole range of hella led lights :armsup:

got the hellas listed above, have had slag from welder and the wait of the truck them, no cracks im happy with them
