Thanks Hoonz
It don`t run on as in petrol pre -ignition. It just seens to stop with an instant shudder most of the time . Don`t know how much movement is permissable on revving the engine. Can you see if engine mounts are split by jacking up or something. No problems taking off or running etc.

If you reverse up an incline do you get what feels like clutch shudder??
This can be an indication of a dodgy engine mount.
Your engine may just have good compression!!!

Thanks Diesel Boy.
Some times I do get a shudder on reversing uphill but I thought that was a trait of the lsd. It`s an auto. As I say sometimes it stops with a whisper and others with a quick shudder which don`t sound right. Just wonderin if they were all like that.

Yeah, a quick shudder is normal, a hard thump is not!!!
You can jack off the sump on the flat peice at the front of the engine spreading the load as much as you can with accross that whole flat area with a block of wood. Be carefull.
Condition of the mounts easiest to see from underneath i found.

before you jack your engine up, get someone in the car and go 1st gear and let the clutch out to load the engine up, you then look at the engine mounts and see if they are tearing apart. try 1st gear and reverse. i just replaced an engine mount on my gq td42. cost from auto one was $85. easy to do but lining bolt holes up again is a real bugger. also when jacking up spread the weight as much as you can or long piece of timber on the side of the sump (where bolts are) and jack up. mate bent his sump and started car only to see bottom of conrod tear a hole in sump. nasty piece of work.
