vacuum leaks - How do you find them?

Post by walker »

Anyone know haw to find vac leaks? I have a small one in the maxi locker line. With work I have used ultrasonics to find vac leaks but this is expensive equipment which most people don't have, is there a simple way?
Thanks,

Adam

can you just unplug the end and put compressed air into it? should be easier to find if you can do this.

If you know what line it is on why not just replace the whole line?
Easier than stuffing around tring to find the leak in the line.

If you could pressurise the line and then spray it with some of that leak detector stuff that bubbles? Or a spray bottle with a detergent mixture would probably work too?

im lead to believe and its worked a charm for me before that if you have a straw nozzle on a can of aerostart and squirt a bit here and there bwhile its idling you will notice the change in idle speed straight away!

get another hose & stick it in your ear, run the other end around the area

makes it real easy to find the hiss or sucking noise

if you are trying to find leaks in the intake, spray carby cleaner around the piping or whatever and if the revs increase/drop ? (cant remember its been so long ive done it) then you have found the leak

another good one for finding leaks in pressurised piping (intercooler pipes) is to cover them in soapy water and they will bubble up
