im after a rover i have about $9000 im after a 1984 to 1990 what would i get for that money and what would i have to do to get it to go any where and what fults are with them
Could probably pick up a late 80's - early 90's for that much coin (IMO these are the best models anyway).
Make sure you keep a little aside as there will always be something that needs fixing.
If you're going to mod it to "go any where" consider looking for one that has already had money spent on it. Far cheaper than having to spend the money yourself.
As for faults, with this age vehicle anything can go. If you get an auto, check the condition of the ZF as these can be expensive to repair. Also, IMO i would stay away from airbag models. The system is unreliable and that model would also have ABS, electric chairs etc which are also prone to fail and are expensive to repair.
If you're not a backyard mechanic, you soon will be. Enjoy.

I have to agree with TuffRR here. if you can, get one with the gear added on, especially an example with an negine upgards (would be worth more than the vehicle to convert anyhow).
The late 80-early 90's are probably the best ones. 3.9 EFI's are my pick. I would have bought one of these if my budget extended to this, but i had planned to put lockers, etc onto mine so I opted to buy an older Rangie to do this.
I picked up an 83 off a bloke on this forum for $2700 and although inc. purchase I have spent $8K on it, it's pretty much reliable now (I had sorted all of the annoying thing out first up, also fitted a front maxi-drive to complement the rear that I had kept off my last Rangie). these are older vehicles now so expect some expenditure. You may get lucky and pick up a example that needs no additional work, but that's a rarity.
A good 89-90 would go from $5K to about 7-8K. be pati9ent and have a good look around becausethere are many variables here. Some are dungas and some are spotless, but most fall in-between.
Good luck with it. Once you get one, you'll be hooked for life 9in a good way that is ).

yeah, if you can get the 3.9v8 - much better motor from what ive heard around the traps, so either get a 87-90 model or find an early one that has already had a conversion.
be fussy when looking around, as the other guys have said, there are some dodgy ones around and there are some good ones, but there are some dodgy ones that look good too
