Anyone used a g13bb in a sierra?

Post by CHOPS1 »

just wondering if anyone has put a g13bb in a sierra?
I might be able to get one with less than 20,000k's on it for less than a 1.6 dohc import engine with more km's.

Just one, a freshly rolled jimny. I dont think the guy has a clue!
I'm hoping to get it before he changes his mind or before he finds out how much he could get.

im doing it now.

the motor is in and started last night..

you need to use thelhs sierra engine mount that bolts to the block.

you also need to use the jimny heater hoses and radiator hoses.

im having trouble fitting the airbox, so that it looks half decent..
other than that its bolt in..

I have one in the buggy

Great little engine  I am using the matching Jimny 5 speed aswell ;)

It has plenty of 'grunt' (relatively speaking :D )

I reckon it is a good choice.

I would love an auto but the engine came with the 5 speed.

Would the Jimny auto be up to crawling duties ?

There you go, you learn something new every day

Well, I can recommend this engine ;)

Just checked the stats on the M13A:

Maximum output: 62.5kW / 6000rpm
Maximum torque: 110Nm / 4100rpm

So these engines are an easy conversion? are the electrics easy as well? would the gearbox be ok or do you recommend changing that also?

cheers

My wife won't even notice that my sierra is getting quieter and her jimny more noisy. :finger:

M 13 has a different gearbox bolt pattern to a sierra and the Jimny gearbox wouldn't be an easy swap to a sierra as it has a long extension housing.

The g13BB looks to be pretty sweet but all of the normal efi conversion work will need to be done. (i.e wiring, fuel system, VSS, check engine etc)
The jimny auto is halariously small and will need good cooling to crawl well, but is an easy fit into a sierra as it is 50mm shorter than the manual and will fit in the tunnel, but really needs to come with a mathcing motor so you get all of the loom etc. The VSS will be critical to get the auto to shift properly.

I believe you can swap a vitara speedo drive unit as it has a VSS.

The m13a looks like it sits alot higher than normal (in shorty40's buggy) or would that be his custom buggy? It looks alot higher than the radiator.
As much as i would like the dohc donk I think i would rather the g13bb for its ease of conversion.

No the m13 has a different bellhousing so you need to use the matching gearbox. The engine is the same height as the g13bb its just the way the buggy was built.
