Rear locker for 80 series 1996
Need info on a quality soft locker to suit my truck. Looking for the most cost effective way to do so. Does any one know of who has them at the right price?

you contradict yourself in one statement
if you want options.. air locker...but it will cost $$ you for a package setup
if you want a cheaper option... repack and shim up your lsd.. I did..it works fine.

I just put a Lock Rite Lokka in the rear of mine and I gotta say it's absolutely brilliant. Perfect manners on road, wife drives and is very happy. Works exaclty as it shuold off-road. And yes, I *really* tried it out. There is no "lock" time, it just pushes. Works as well downhill as up. Fitted it myself, fairly easy (instructions are a bit crappy for a surf).
Get's 10/10 from my point of view.

I dont believe it can disengage when you reverse
Keep it simple
You could go a Toyota electric locker, which is also either locked or open. If the electric action is not fast enough for you it can be converted to a cable locker. My guess would be about 1/2 to 2/3 cost of an ARB set-up.
If the electrics fail they can still be locked up, where if an ARB doesn't have compressed air it WILL NOT LOCK (right guts?).
