hey..just wondering how u would mount the au twin thermo fan set up to a tb42 radiator? physical dimension of thermo shroud is slightly smaller than readiator so im thinking i will have to mount into the vertical fins top and bottom of radiator som how..just wondering if anybody has done this and how? also, what is the best way to wire them up? both fans on and of at once? seperate switching for each fan? temperature controled on/off? or manual switch on/off? thanks in advance.
okay, i have never done this, but i like the idea of having one thermo fan cut in. and if needed the other cut in, and i also like the idea to have a manual override switch, to turn them both on or off, this way, deep water crossings you can kill them, or if you see a long hill comming up, you can have both on, specially when crawling
Have a cutout switch and fuse both fans individually, worst thing that I've seen happen in water is a stick jam the fan till it burnt out, so it progbaly also pays to check them afterwards. 2 thermo switches is the go, one set just below your thermostat setting and one a fair bit above, run a warning light off the high one so you know the motor is working harder than normal. I ran my TB42 around with only one thermofan out of 2 running permanently with the ignition fine for weeks, it was only when I started doing 2wd rooster tails in the sand it got warm enough for me to hook up the second fan.

yep.. i like them wiring ideas...thanks guys. what about the actual mounting though? has anyone ever mounted the twin thermos to a gq tb42 radiator? would it require me to remove the radiator? just looking, if i pulled off the engine fan there is possibly enough room to work in..and i would have access from top and bottom. but if i did pul the radiator, i guess getting it professionally cleaned would be a option at the same time..
Yes, you will have to pull out the radiator and possibly make a mounting plate to put the fans on, you just have to watch you have planty of room around the water pump pulley & alternator, a 40-50mm body lift seems to help. I'm not sure what type of fans mine are, but make sure they are shallow mounting as much as possible.

All I did on mine was make an adaptor plate out of 3mm alluminium sheet. It bolts to the back of the radiator. You have to cutdown some of the plastic shroud thats on the thermos then screw it to the alluminium. Its a bit of messing around but works well. I just wired mine to come on with the ignition with a manual cutout switch. Temp sensor switches are just something else to stuff up. Theres heaps of room for fans, just cut the engine driven fan off and leave the bit that bolts to the pulley.

the lifespan of your fans will be alot shorter wired in permanently.
not to mention fan noise when the engine is cold
you can override a temp switch with a manual overide switch also.
