Isnt actually up to the Tire manufacturers to recommend what size rim for the tire?
EG: Engineer in Melb has letter from a tire company saying its "recommended" 8inch for 35x12.5's and Wendle had a letter from Mickey Thompson stating that Claws were ok on 8's.
bogged wrote:mkpatrol wrote:Nope, thats why we have a tyre & rim manual.
so what is the tire manufacturers recommended rim size actually for? Warm and fuzzy?
It is a recommendation of the tyre & rim COMBINATION which best suits the vehicle in question.
They are still limited to selecting the right tyres to the rims, no good the trying to fit 33's to 6 inch rims.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.

Well i had 35x12.5 approved on 8" rims got a phone call and was told they wudnt approve me final mod forms even tho ive done a lane change test brake test etc etc etc.
Ended up telling me i had to go down to a 33x10.5 if i wantd final approval and the forms .
I said if they pay for the new tyre and rims then maybe but then id have to change ratios and all up 4k they wud have to pay or id go above and seek legal advise as they already approved on 8" rims and the pro comp xterrains are rated for 8" rim but they refused .
Ya cant get a 8.5" rim off the shelf couldnt find a 9" of the shelf ended up ringing the guy back and he said ok he will approve 10" rims so i had to go buy 10" rims .
Just hope no1 changes anymore stuff kus its startin to cost 2 much .
will be goin the pitts soon so hope they approve it all.
A guy i know went last week and they refused to inspect anymore when they saw he had 8" rims with 35x12.5s.
His mate went thru 6wks ago and got approval with 8" rims .
I was also told that if i travel inerstate with my truck having 35s i be taken of the road and illegal in all states as the new rules are being introduced as a blanket accross aus dunno if this is true but i wudnt drive that far anyway but is something else thats a piss off

WA
Legal advise is thru a freind and they said if i had been given permisson for 8" rim then within the laws i could run any tyre that is allowed on a 8" rim .
Basicaly what the transport guy said was they cant accept liability for the tyre and rims because the tyre and rim association say ya need a 8.5" for 12.5" tyres.
So i could have gone and argued the fact pro comp are rated for 8" but if i ever went BFG or another brand then id have to get more rims any way .
The guy was freindly and helpfull he just didnt wanna be the 1 to get in the shit if my tyres rolled of te rims i suppose hes doin his job.
I could have got rims made but $$$$ .
Im glad he approved the 10" rims for me tho

Id be careful with that advice as the usually the engineer will approve the wheels & tyres as a combination & you will be restricted to that, I have never seen an engineering certificate which approves just the rims with open tyres.

Well any tyre thats 35x12.5 thats is quoted for the 8" rim.
Thats what they are engineeerd for did the lane change test on etc etc.
it is getn damn hard
from what i have herd they will accept mods in total upto 150mm eg 2"bdy 2"susp 2" tyre in a few diff combinations but all must have engineer aprroval and lane change tests brake tests etc etc .

33x10.5 can be mounted on 8" rims 33x12.5 cant.
From memory the 305/70r16 can .
basicaly what they are saying is that you can only exceed the rim by 4" eg 8" = 12"
8.5"=12.5
the 305s measure in inches approx 12" so thats why it can be done .
I think 315 if there is a size wud also be able to fit the rim but not sure, Because of the 16" rim.
Some1 said it too me but i cant remember

what did you want to know?
Can any of the following tyres be mounted on 8" rims
33x12.50R15
33x10.50R15
LT305/70R16
LT295/75R16
Thanks
Chris.
33x12.50R15
10.00" rim
33x10.50R15
8.50" rim
LT305/70R16
LT295/75R16
those two are not listed in either "Light Truck" or "Truck - Bus" sections nor in the "Passenger Car" section.
I have a 2002 copy of the book, so maybe they have released these specs in later editions, I will ask my old man to have a look in the latest one for you, he has a copy at work (hence why i have the old one )

Thats fcuked.
So the manufacture (http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/all_terrain_ta_kd.pdf) recommends 7"-9" rim for 33x10.50R15 but the Tyre and Rim Association Manual recomends a 8.5" rim
What about 33x9.50R15??
So are there any tyres in the 33" range that can be mounted on a 8" rim??
BTW where did your old man get the manual
Thanks Chris
bulldogy wrote:I can tell you for sure the 33x10.5 can be fitted to the 8" rim was told this last week by DPI thats the size they wantd me to drop to for a 8" rim
Yea, but I want to do things by the book and not have any hassles with DPI later on. If the manual says a minimum of 8.5" and DPI say 8" then I will be using the manual. When the WA regulation become final they state that "It is very important when selecting tyres & rims that the combination complies with the tyre & Rim association manual."
So to be 100% legal you will have to follow this regulation
This is why I want to get my hands on a copy so I can be 100% certain.

what brands? Look at the websites of the tires your tinking about, they usually have recommended rim sizes for their tires.
This is what has me fucked about this "tire association manual"... All tires are different on rim sizes...
