idle jet problems

Post by purefmx »

Ive been having problems with the idle jet blocking lately. Now i do realise that it probably has something to do with the terrain that the zook has seen over the past fortnight, however there has to be a simple alternative to constantly pulling the carb off and apart just to unblock it!
Theres nothing worse than a 4x4 that wont idle, i hate "heel & toeing it".
The small rubber seal around the plunger is a bit crook, however even when new it seems that grit could get in beyond this seal.
Any ideas?

Put another filter in just before the carby a little ryco will do and keep an eye on it and see how much sh1t is in the tank. Or one of your lines maybe breaking down and the rubbery bits are getting in to the carby??????

Have fun with it :D :D :D

As well as the extra fuel filter put a uni filter (air filter) in. Ever since I did that I have had no problems with the idle. Before that it was playing up all the time.

Red, carby cleaner is all good, however the problem is there for a reason, such as the tiniest grain of sand blocking that idle jet. I prefer to source the problem to remedy it, and im not a huge fan of C02 carby cleaner, these chemicals are fairly potent solvents and can sometimes cause further headaches down the track. Ill replace the accelerator pump plunger seal and hope that helps, im also going to apply just a small smudge of grease or vasoline around the seal, due to its nature it cant seal perfectly so i figure ill just give it a small helping hand. Theres nothing worse than a car with no idle. After a run out to sugarloaf last week, i snapped the tailpipe off the car, this has radically altered the note. In other words it sounds like it should be jabbin town with all the "doof doofs". I pulled up next to a highway patrol car yesterday- no idle heel and toe, and a load note. What a drama!!!!
Ill keep ya's posted when i fix it, cheers
