No but i have heard that anything above 100:1 is getting useless as a crawl ratio. Depending on terrain of course.

Depends on driving style as to wether you can go too low but for some obsticles you do need some wheel speed.
This would be set no 5 that has broken that i know of.

I think they do come with a limited warranty but wouldn't be much different to rockhopper's.
I could be wrong though

limited warranty is better than none i guess.

Perhaps authorized installers who do a full rebuild of the case at time of installation could be utilized for warranty purposes.

You will find it very hard to find anyone that will warrant anything once it has been in a comp...

Just my opinion...

WELL I CALLED RICK THIS MORNING...

sorry no warranty.....
i do think this stinks as these are built for the purpose and are expensive...

but

as said i like the ratios in these so im going to buy another set...
and i dont think anyone would have much chance of getting a warranty from os manufacturers so why not buy from here....

see how long these new ones last...

I still do not understand why they supply no warranty, ARB from what i have heard back the warranty on their lockers, even RUFF said in another post that he engaged his at the wrong time, broke it and it was replaced.

Perhaps a rock block could be a better option?

Selling a gear set with no warranty is much like selling a new car with a tow bar and a disclaimer stating that if the car is used for towing purposes the warranty will be void.

I too have series 3's in my car and i chose to buy even with no warranty, however if there were another product on the market with warranty even if it cost a little more i probably would have purchased them instead.

The warranty isue is because i believe there are too many variables involved with quality of installation, type of driving, other mods etc. Alo tof factors can determine the life of a set of gears

whoops... forgot the rest.. here it is..

arb air lockers are aftermarket.... but they still offer and honour a warranty
as do alot of gear makers...

so these should also.... even if it is a limited warranty...

Thats fair enough . .if the gears are installed by an unknown third party ... if the gears are installed by an authorised re-seller, they should be covered under some type of warranty IMHO .. if not, then why bother haveing authorised re-sellers ..

You can get warranty on after market diff gears ! (The same install and driving issues would be realised there)

Hmmm I would be mega :x :bad-words: :x if I were in that boat.

I would like to complement Mud4b on the way he is copping it on the chin.
as my dad says "you win em, you wear em"
our sport by its very nature is to push our cars right up to the point of destruction and sometimes just a bit past  and things are GOING to break, it is just a bummer when they are expencive things.
I am sure mud4b knows in his own mind the treatment his R/Hopper has been given and if he wasn't happy with its strenth he wouldn't buy another one no matter how good the ratio's were, to put it another way,
if he had done 100 easy road K's and it imploded he would not be happy
(understandably) and would be foolish to waste his money on another.

I do however like sierrajims rockblock idea (with my S3).

Series 3's or any rock hopper for that matter is your choice, if you don't like the no warranty idea don't buy them.

Perhaps someone may come out with a sierra reduction gearing with a warranty.

I think the Marks gears for Lux ect come with warranty for everything except for comp use don't they?

mine lasted 3000kms ,fitted by authorized reseller sold with warranty at the time.when they broke they were out of warranty time wise but with half a dosen off road runs i am less than happy.
Liam said the gear wasn't his & it was over hardened therefore brittle.when i could prove that it was a bbm gearset the answer was sorry no warranty, i'll look after you on another set.but none in stock.
then i went for a ratio change with suzi maruti 4.1 centres to enter my first comp (not low enough but better).

my experience is suzi transfer gears are stronger ,no breakages in my cars yet.over seven years

I don't claim that i soft on my car or that i'm running a stock eng.but there is fit for purpose issues with these gears

I have been running series 3 gears since they were first released.
I'm not running a standard motor,my mototr is injected and turbo'd.
I'm also running 38" tyres with hilux diffs and dual lockers.
Now i have punished that absolute crap out of my zook and now a rock buggy,With no gear failures what so ever.
I'm happy as a PIG IN :bad-words: with my series 3 gears.....
Just my opinion

just something to note on warrent with aftermarket parts like gears and lockers,

With ARB lockers, i spoke to head office, and was told, you have a limited warrent, stating that the warrenty is void if you run larger than standard tyres, you would have to prove to them that its not a stress related failure.

It seems that the breakages are the same batch of gears.
I have checked a few sets of gears & noticed that the broken sets are all the same.only the cutting on the idler that is different.generally no stamping on the idler either.(yes all supplied by bb)
when the idler breaks it normally takes out the other high range gear & the input gear.
(mud4b's are the same as mine & tims ..all broken.. i know of another set that are still hanging together)
If you have the good ones they seem to be ok .

If you have the other ones time will tell.
we are only a small section of consumers but it seems that this problem should be noted and rectified by the supplier.
as we now have up to 5 failing series 3 gearsets known of here,at least 3 of which are the same.
wonder how many we don't know about.

they are also made in Japan.
