what wrecker you should use will depend on what type of 4x4 you need parts for. some have a standard parts price where say a g'box from a patrol is the same cost as one from a feroza. Others price according to demand or the first figure that pops into their head.

best to just ring arround for best price.

I beg to differ.....

I have recently "discovered" a new wrecker that has been around for a while but unknown to me.
Whats really embarrasing is he's retivilly local too ( 1.5 hour drive is close for me )

I have found this guy to be brilliant in his pricing, his warantee, his speed of delivery, and his honesty.

The thing that supprised me the most is that he does 90% of his buisiness over the phone and is one of the bigger wreckers in Vic and sells more interstate than in Vic !!!

He does mainly cars ( late models ) BUT.... has a large range of 4x4 stuff onhand and its growing steadily. I was there last week and counted 8 troop carriers, 5 Mitsubishis, a dozen patrols, and probably 6 luxes....

Stuff I've bought of recent.....

4 alloy mags to suit a commodore ( 5 spoke ) with about 75% rubber left on the Michy tyres cost me .....$88 !!!! THE LOT ! ( 15X8 inch rims !! )

1 Commodore diff ( 10 bolt Salsbury ) 3.23 centre & drum to drum cost me .... $125 ( currently being converted to disc brake)

1 Commodore tailshaft with new centre bearing cost ...$ 44

1 Nissan PTO winch ( to suit MQ/MK ) complete kit cost ....$400

1 three core radiator in "new condition" to suit V8 commodore, cost $50  ( I was about to spend $400 on a recored unit )

Give "Jamie Nunn" a ring on.....

Try Hall 4x4 Salvage, they're my preferred wrecker. Got a mq rear window hinge off em, nearly half the price of every where else, when I got there they threw in a second one for free, and gave me two beers as well. And they let me get a change over alt on tick. Didn't get the old one to em for about 2 weeks and they were cool with it. Top blokes, good service.

just a tip, deal with the same person each time, this way you'll get better service than dealing with different people behind the counter

I have seen how he drives so that dosent mean it is in good nick. Only person I know that could smash a rock in half the size of a bus (ateco winch challenge 99)

But I have brought stuff from Halls before and have been very happy with the price. And would go back there. But I will try this one that V8patrol has brought up cos they are closer.

I had to get some front shackles, and Hall were the best price. They were $20 cheaper for each, and that was new also. So I'd give them a go again for sure.

I'll second that and third that - they are Good value to deal with and if they don't have it - they'll point you in the right direction and not a bum steer.

got me a V good condition rear 4.5 diff for $440, and a transfer case for $195 from halls. they definately try to get ya the best, as the diff (to go in rear) was formerly a front, meaning it had done less work, and the transfer case was out of an ln106, a later model hilux, but same case, just againb, done less work. chucked in a gasket for the diff and a sunnie 15x7 too for free. when i left me reciept there, and went back 2 weeks later in a hope of getting a new one - they had actually kept it!

an indication on price, a quote for the transfer case from another mob was at around $450.
