Bang Bus!!!!!!

Post by DieselBoy »

Heh, wasn't sure about heading the thread with that, its ment to be amusing ;)
I realised i havn't posted any pics of it on here yet, and you may be interested.

Made it from 10mm 5ply untreaded plywood.
Consists of two permenant box's on either side with two runners of 12mm galve angle to support the bed on. The box's are such that it still alows for the use of the rear seats, which i am leaving at for the mean time, but i will devise a quick release system for them in the future so they can be turfed out for more cargo area.
The bed consists of two removable sections, one 800mm long and the other 810mm long. Combined length of 1610mm, just enough to lie on.
When set up for sleeping on you flod the front seats as far forward as they will go and pull the front section of the bed out and it rests on the back of the seats.
When stowed for traveling, you slide the front of the bed back to where the rearseat would be if folded up, and the rear section of the bed back underneath the front section so the sit on top of each other, leaving about 600mm of free space in the boot for working in if need be.
The bed base is supported in the span between the two box's by the same type of galve angle screwed two the ply front and rear. The runners on the box's are slotted so that the angle on the bed base effectivly clips in, preventing it from sliding around both whn sleeping and driving.
I will geta few more pics up later when i get home from work, but these are the best two i have at the moment.

Very good stuff.
I was thinking of doing this on a Cape York trip, sleeping in the car instead of a tent.

Be nice as a shagg'in wagon too - might need some curtains!

I will be putting sliding drawers below and load them up with the heavy stuff.
Probably in 2 sections incase I need to put the rear seats back in.

Looking forward to more pics!

5% tints on the back and side windows and sun roof. Seems good, private enough, but i have yet to test it properly so i will tell you how it feels after that!!

I was in looking at steel framed futons the other day, Toying with the idea of cutting and joining one in the middle to squeeze in the back of my shorty.

It'll make sitting on my back step alot comfier too.
