OK heres the deal
I've got 35 Simex ETs and they are a good tyre for NZ Conditions BUT I want to go bigger ( don't we all )
I spoke to the Simex dealer and hes got no info on the new ET ( we won't see one here for ages then )
Do I get 37 MTRs ??? wot r they like in the mud ? how tough are the side walls ? $390 each
Go to a swamper ??? which one ?? $500+ each
Micky T's ??
Do I keep the 35 ET's and get some 37 MTRs as well ??
I LOVE the rocks but we do have some awesome rutted, muddy tracks here.

Pos, the side wall's on the mtr's got a bad name from the previous model, they were around for several years in the states, i think the the only ones we get over here are the new style walls ,Atleast i hope so, i have a brand new set of 35s for my rouki thing in the shed. :(
Has there been many reports of side wall damage with the new walls
over here?
Larry.

I am only going by what construction the tyres are made out of!
The Mtr has "durawall" or something like that, but basically they are just a stronger 3 ply wall compared to a 6 ply on the claw and some tsl's.
When driving on severe ROCKS like what suprasurf wheels than the stonger the tyre the better!
I recently destroyed a 6 month old MICKEY THOMPSON 38.5 CLAW, tore a 10-12 inch gash right threw the SIDE WALL. I am not to worried as i was thinking i would have destroyed probably 6 times that amount if i had BFG or GOODYEAR!
I am NOT knocking the MTR as they are a great tyre but for strength you couldn't go past the heavier 6 ply tyres!!!

Interesting stuff... Thanks Guys
I will check the Mickey T's out. Last time I saw a set for sale they were $800 each for 33's !!! Hopefully with the Simex range selling so well they have dropped in price !
The swampers are over $500 each, but if the Mickeys are still stupid money they may be the best option, not to say a bit of haggling wouldn't help
I'll ring around tomorrow and see what I find... I'll post some Kiwi prices

Re: Another Tyre Nightmare
I was up at Go Down on the weekend and Chris Hummer (Mr. Simex) had the new 36/12.5 ET on display, he has flown over 20 tyres for the Outback Challenge. I'm sure that will test them out.

i disagree.......
wen i went for a drive the other day there was me (33" BFG) Dan (35" MTR) and Cal (37" MTR) and we were driving round all day up waterfalls that were flowing and slippery but in the whole day we had no wheel spin, and then a few weeks later i went out with TSL and a few of his mates they were all running 39.5" TSL's and they didnt seem 2 offer much grip on a greater traction surface. fair enuf it had been raining but they didnt seem 2 b working as well as i wood have thought
But thats just my personal opinions and my observations

I can't see any tyre being perfectly suited to all surfaces.
The Mtr's are a Mad tyre and will defently out perform Tsl's, claws, boggers etc etc on certain condition, as will they out perform the Mtr's on other terrain!
If you were driving in Mud all day than the Bogger will run rings around the others, If you are driving on smooth slick rock the mtr and bfg krawlers will work better than the others, and if you are driving over very harsh rock with lots of jaggered edges than Anything with a decent sidwall will work fine!
The other thing is do you still want to street them!
OK heres the prices in Kiwi $$$
35 Simex ET $450
37 MTR $400
37 Mickey T $630
38 Swamper TSL $605
38 Swamper TSL/SX $690
OUCH !!
The Mickey T is 37 X 13.5 X 15 which is too wide for NZ :(
Swampers are 12.5 wide which is better !
Prices start to make the MTR look good tho !!
Is the MTR a genuine 37 ??

Kym Bolton also has the new 36.5/11.5 Centipedes on his truck ready for the Outback Challenge. He was one of the 5 that they flew in tyres for. he was running them at LCMP on the weekend and was real happy with them. They have a third row of blocks in the centre providing a bit more support. This means they will be readily available soon - at least they are being manufactured now. I'll stick to 35s until I have MORE GRUNT.
