HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY??

Post by jigga »

Hi guys,

just test drove an 89 model mav with 250km's on the clock. it was dual fuel, had safari snorkel, bigger wheels and i think a 2" suspension lift. unsure of brands of suspension bits and wheels. inside is VERY tidy.

They are asking $13 000. there is no way im paying that, what would you pay?

just curious to know what you guys think its worth.

cheers,

p.s also there is very little rust, and exeterior paint is black and is good condition.
p.p.s it is at a car yard at cooper plains in bris, has anyone else seen this car?

I got my 90 model about 2 years ago for $11800 and it had 33's and a 2' inch lift. And it look'd like it was a very tidy unit. But it was stuffed it cost me another $5000 to get it up to any kind of cond. So I would say watch buying thing with mod's they most likly ad ahard life.

There is no way I'd pay more than $9000 for the vehicle you've described.

I test drove one yesterday, 1990 model, also dual fuel, LOTS of fuel space with a big LPG tank and a big petrol tank under the passenger side, just on 31x10.5" ATs and generally pretty neat, car yard was asking $9k, I offered $7k and he didn't bite so I'm still looking. It's a reasonable buy even at $9k though.

I'd rather get a stock one with dual fuel for $7000 and add the bigger tyres etc myself anyway.

Is it long or short wheelbase?

BTW when I was in Brisbane I ended up buying my maverick shorty in Sydney and driving it home, so much cheaper down there and it's only a $100 air fare and a day of driving to get it home.

it doesnt look like it has been flogged. but i know its only once you have owned it for a bit that you realise what sort of condition it is really in.

It also had an ARB bull bar and tow bar.

My 92 cost $14000. Spent sh!t loads on it, probably owes me $30,000 now.... :?

Still, what new 4x4 can I buy now, or in the future, that can come anywhere near as capable or tough.

I intend to keep this car forever - if you feel the same then $30,000 is not that much in comparison - whats a new Commodore cost?

dude.. trawl sydney...gq's down here are worth peanuts now... my xlt shorty 91 auto lpg full electric air and steer was only 4800, mate just bought a 89 lwb diesel for 4000, another mate bought diesel shorty last yr for 6700.. all were in good nik and the only one that needed a slight tidy up was the 4000 89 lwb, had a leaky pump and axle seals..

u shouldnt pay more than 6500 - 7000 for a stock gq in tip top nik these days..just need cash and good bargaining skills

These days I would only buy private and would not pay more than $7000 for somthing like that. A $6000 saving pays for any bodgie warranty they offer.

Why would a shorty thats yellow be worth less... mines yellow what are you saying

No honestly I have just had my diesel shorty mostly resprayed + rock damage fixed, just waiting for pictures. It is a hair and a whisker away from being completely competition ready but I have to kiss it goodbye...

I won't take anything below 13.5 k - which is a a fricking bargain if you consider what has been spent.

In my opinion a petrol mav/patrol isn't worth anything over 10k --- given todays climate. In saying that the diesels aren't that cheap to run these days either...

Im not sure of the proper name of the car yard. but it is about a block back from arb heading inbound to the city. they only supply 4wd's and there name start with "W". its infront of a wreckers there.

hope that helps

i wouldnt pay that much, i paid $14000 for my 94 model with 140,000ks on the clock. 8-10 grand for the one youve described sounds a bit more realistic

Warham williams. They allways seam more expensive than most yards. Dont realy know what there after sales are like but i do know they are tight asses when it comes to repairing vehicles prior to sale.
