Hey guys wondering if you could help. Im interested in knowing how many km's is to be expexted out of a 300tdi motor and the 5 speed gearbox before they require rebuilding, and approx how many dollars you'd be looking at to do this.

The 300TDi is a high output engine for it's displacement. It is very dependant on good cooling and lubrication to achieve this. Problems will occur if either of these systems is not up to scratch (eg coolant levels or oil changes).
Too high of exhaust gas temperatures can damage any diesel engine. Long periods of high load eg. lugging up long steep hills with exessive fuel (indicated by clouds of black exhaust smoke) instead of using a lower gear to get more air through the engine.
How the vehicle was operated and maintained has a large bearing on its life.
Short runs are not good because the sulphur in diesel fuel results in sulphuric acid accumulating in the engine oil. Long runs are not a problem because the operating temperature is high enough over a sufficient time for the acid to be driven out.
Good filtration of the engine intake air is also important for the quality of the engine oil. Use good paper air filter elements and make sure they are serviced regularly. Poor air filtration leads to silica in the engine oil.

Interestingly, changing your air filter too often will actually increase the amount of dust in your engine, as air filters become more efficient the more dust they collect (at the expense of an increase in pressure drop - slight engine performance decrease). So it is a good idea to not change your air filter too frequently, but to clways clean the collected dust from any cyclonic pre-cleaner regularly.
If anyone is interested I have some graphs on this from filter manufacturers that I may be able to post.
