Power steering plumbing, need help
Heres the problem.....
I have a 84 Supra pump on the motor..... I have a IFS steering box from a Surf.
The pump has three pipes. One is the main feed from the reservior, one is the pressure release valve which must go back to the reservior, and the last one goes to the steering box.
My problem is.... Where does the other pipe on the steering box go????
Cheers Thomas

The return lines don't have a real lot of pressure, might be easier to put a t junction in on the return, run 2 hoses instead of three. just make sure the return hose is a larger diameter.
Ended up just adding another return in the reservior.
BUT The bitch won't work.
I've changed hoses round.
Anyways thrown the toys for today, will have another look tomorrow.

Never seen a Toyota pump have 3 lines running to it. But i have seen one with an extra fitting that actually took a pressure switch to bump the idle up when you turn at Idle.
Mmmm. No I don't think thats it. But then again I'll look into it 'cos its got me stumped!! Might have to use the last resort......... Consult the manual for a supra!!!

Oh well, I'll get it sorted eventually
can ya take a photo of it???
as thay have said there could be a preasure switch out of the pump. all u need to di if it is, is to block it off

Heres a pic.
Don't bag me.... I know that the pressure hose is attached to the wrong pipe on the steering box.
I'm having trouble believing its being such a bastard of a thing Nothing like a good challange!!!!

hi ya
when u start ya moter have a look in the resv and see if fliud is moving
looks like u have the sencer outlet hooked up to ya box
so fluid is flowing from res to pump then back to res
resv should only have two pipes, one underneath that feeds pipe and one on side that is the return
hope this helps

try this and see if it works
inlet on the box will be the smaller of the two holes
also pipes from pump to box should be crimped high pressuer pipe aswell
Yip tried this too. The bottom hose on the pump has pressure (Just ask the garage wall ) The middle one doesn't appear to have any pressure.
I'm starting to think that its the steering box. Is there really anything in an IFS box which can go wrong?
I've seen an exploded diagram of these boxes and they don't appear to have any parts in them which might be sticking.
Cheers

Well for those who have been following this thread, care to share what was wrong?
Did more research. Found a Supra like the one my motor came out of. Had a really good look. Shifted afew hoses again.......... and again......... and again.
Eddie had it 90% right in this post

The problem was the two out lets on the pump were ment to be round the other way.
I'm stoked, my truck hasn't had power steering since I put the Supra in in 2002
Thanks again
Thomas

Of course
This power steering is the best I've ever had. One wee problem..... It keeps blowing the hoses off. Think that I get some industrial hydrolic hose made.
