michelin tyres

i am looking for some big truck tyres, around 44 - 50". i see the xml's were fitted to the f250 in the four wheeler magazine.

i also notice every other us built rig, runs the other michelin, with a boomerang tread. what are they called? what is the better mud tyre? where can i get some? thanks

The boomerang type tread is the XL (? used to remember all this nerdy stuff), and I believe this is basically a superceded tyre. I believe that they are popular inthe US because there were a large number of used ex army ones available. I think that USA 6X6 and for a while Avalance engineering had them pretty cheap.

They have less tread depth than the XML and are obviously directional.

I knew of two hiluxes that ran this type of tyre, one was running XL's, the other XS (nearly identical but optimised for snow/sand use) and they were always considered 20K carcasses - and apparently at sped you could pretty much watch the rubber coming off them.

Give Total Tyres a call in Oakleigh, I overheard the salesman there bagging Mich. tyres saying quality has gone down hill and they are putting out a inferior product..

being speed rated, they are legal to be on the road.
being only 15 - 18" wide, they are skinny enough, and should sit inside my flares. so that will be legal as well. my swampers are completely illegal.

They may be speed rated within the guards and road legal, but all that is irrelevant if they are completely illagal for the vehicle. So why bother about speed rating or within the guards, a cop would still give you a defect notice as soon as they see the truck.

I dont know where they are disposing of them. But the army is changing all there semi-bar tread type tyres to a different micheln tread pattern (perviaous pattern was like a very large simex JT 1). These will most likly suck on road though.

A mate is getting a set of these new for $1200 for his new project truck :cool: :cool: gunna put em on header rims $20 each .320 a corner is awsome for tyre and rims 38'' :lol:

What vehicle you putting them on crushu??

"Header" rims are probably just rims built for agricultural machinery is my guess.

have a look at truck wreckers.......several advertising in "trader" mags.
usually have army surplus stuff at pretty good prices.

Should be fine for a series Land Rover!!! I think the factory tyres were only speed rated to 110.
