when we built my tray we kept it nice and low, actually dropped the tray bottom level about 3" from stock. Also built it so I could use it for camping. A esky fits on each wheel covering with tie down points. A spare wheel fits at the back with two 20l jerry cans in front. I fill the tray part with my camping boxes and on top I fit a canvas bag with my clothes, tent, sleeping bag etc

My thoughts are to not chop it.

You said in your first post that the back is getting cancerous and you wanna chop that off. After doing the exact same thing my advice is to fix the rust.

Want some extra tyre clearance? Chop the guards out.

Want a better departure? Replace rear bumper with tube, cut the quaters, and put tail lights in the tailgate

The amount of time & effort chopping just doesn't justify the end result IMO. Not to say that doing a chop will be hard, it's just when I put the two options side by side the tray option is not the 1st one i'd go with.

Not that I think you're gonna listen anyway. Damn whippersnappers :D

If I chop I'll probably go something along these lines cause it is pretty easy, looks bling and decently practical :)

Yeah I know his mate was on the board but I think he once posted saying it was his. Anywho bigsteve what is the link to those pic's?

I agree that a flat bed may lift the cog but i'm sure if you fill the guts with heavy stuff then it's no different to what grimbo has done. eg; fuel cell, hand winch, spare, hi lift etc..

yes mate i have welded steel checker plate in all the holes in the tray just dont have any pics at the moment. also the part that is aluminum is removable so i can still get to the fuel tank if i have too :cool:
