winch cable dampners

Post by baggers »

I'm starting to give my tirfor a bit of a workout these days and am becoming a tad worried about standing at the end of an 11mm cable under tension. To my understanding a cable dampner absorbs some of the shock if the cable were to break by pulling it down. What i'd like to know is how to increase its effectiveness.

Would a 10 kg dampner be safer than a 5kg one, and would a one meter long one be safer than a 50cm long one?

What do you guys use, or don't you bother?

I wont lie to you, I have little idea how these bad boys work.

Thanks,

Baggers

ARB have revised their design

http://www.arb.com.au/News/Australia/News_Letter_Autumn_05.pdf

The new ARB recovery damper is bright orange, and is
manufactured from heavy duty vinyl with silver reflective
tape for night time visibility. It also features handy storage
pockets, useful for carrying heavy items to and from the
anchor point, and for competition purposes, the damper is
a minimum weight of 1100g.
