35's on a Middy

whos running 35's under the middy im about to try it and have two body lift and 2 in the springs. is there any problems with rubbing it looks like it might rub on the rear inners has any cut this away thanks shrek

I'm running 35 x 12.5s on standard offset rims and the tyres do rub on the rear inner guards under flex. Also on the lip on the outside of the rear guard where the flares bolt to which has made a mess of the outer tread. although a bodylift may negate this as I only have spring lift.

also rub on the front leaves under full lock, just have to reduce your turning circle or offset rims.

Other than this 35's are great under the middy.

That's right, I am running 35" MTRs and yes, the fronts scrub under full lock, and the rears scrub inner guards... (Although, only the left rear that is)...

I have a Spring lift, and also a 2" Body Lift...

I am thinking of getting some rims offset as far as I can, but as mentioned, I think they will then scrub the outer rear guards...

My suspension setup too, is stiff in the rear at the moment and still scrubs, (60 Series Leaf Springs, in a light Middy - No Roof, No back seats)...

Therefore, a good flexing Middy will probably scrub a little more than mine does...

I hope to get the springs and guards sorted so I can try some 37" MTRs next...

You would think that the left Rear Wheel should be a little higher in the guard, but as I said, they are really stiff... :oops:

You could always go to a 35x9.5 or a 35x10.5. These would give you more flex room under the guard. It does limit your choices somewhat though.

Simex ET will fit the bill.

Just keep in mind that you will need track width to compensate for a lifted vehicle.

A mate of mine has just swapped a set of Troopy springs under the rear of his Middy. It moves the diff back about 3 1/2 to 4 inches.

Need to move the rear shackle mount back, he's also cut the back off and is building a tray.

Prior to that on 35" X terrains his car performed quite well with spring lift (2-3 inches from memory) and 2 inch body lift.

It appears that a few Middy spring lift kits are re arched original length springs and the harsh ride/stiff feel comes from incorrect shackle angle. Perhaps some custom slightly longer springs with re drilled axle perches could help you out a bit?

that is a good point because iam still not sure if i should get my factory ones reset and go longer shackels :idea:

A reset factory spring with a longer shackle will still leave the shackle at the wrong angle.

With the shackle angle leaning back the ride will be hard and you will chew through bushes.

What is the length difference between standard rear 73 series springs to the front. Is is quite common on a sierra to fit the rear springs in the front with a slight chassis extension. This also moves the diff slightly forward giving better clearance for tyres.

they had better fit or will screw up my plans.

i have dobinson 2" raised springs, my plan is to go 2" BL and then fit 36" simex JT2. if there is significant rubbing then prob extended shackles. ultimately planning on SOA and something bigger again, maybe 38/39 Swamper TSL.

any ideas on driveline strength for these option would be welcome

of course, power (or lack of it) will need to be addressed too

You mean Extreme Trekkers?

That is what my mates one has on it now, he's had to trim the guards a little on 15x10's with standard back spacing 3 1/2" i think.

yeah, that's right. the extreme trekkers.

is that john butlers middy? got any info about what he's done to his truck, most of my plans are inspired by what i've read (little) about his truck.

73 series middy now cut back to tray back ute, 6 point cage, cut front guards, cheezy bar, high mount with plasma, F&R ARB lockers, troopy springs in rear with buggyleaf, snorkel, Lightforce XGT's and biltz, straight gas, more switches and electronic crap thanan aeroplane, 15x10's with 36" ET2's

The pics are of it in previous states.
