Tyre life
Changing my tires for either BF mud terrains, pro comp x trails or wrangeler MT. Cannot make up my mind which though. So I guess what it boils down to is which ones last the longest. any ideas ?

I have a set of 33" bfg muds for four and a half years on a lux. Daily driver and weekend thrasher. Still have 5-6mm of tread depth. A bit greasy on the wet tar. Looking for new treads now though...

Had a set of BFG MT for a 3 year trip arround Oz. They were great in alot of very different terrian!!! Never had a puncture where as my travelling partner (runing a couple of brands) destroyed 5 tyres.
I was sold on them and when it came to replacing them there was no doubt in my mind they were going on the truck again . . . until alot of people in every tyre place I went to and called told me they don't use the same rubber any more and you won't get the same km from them anymore. The company has been sold apparently and now are made in Malaysia with inferior rubber componds. Very despondent !

A lot of variables will affect how tyres will wear - some peoples experiences may be tarnished by their driving style, rotation patterns and alignment regularity. Therefore, saying one brand is shit without any quantitive evidence is not reliable. Take this into consideration when listening to other peoples opinions.
I can only speak for the BF muds, I've had 65,000kms (and I reckon I have about 30,000 left in them) out the ones on the Mav, with a combo of long distance road, regular offroad (including chippy rocks) and local commuting. Regular rotations, balances and alignments have kept them wearing evenly without problems.
edit: added how many kms left in them.

Built, not bought.
The only time I have rotated the tyres was when I got a new 4b. I cant remember ever have them balanced or aligned since fitting and they do lots of road driving, then off road they cop a flogging and I have still got about 70000 or so out of them, they still have a bit to go. Having said all they above, the backs have worn quicker then the front

Its a bitch of a lesson with mates. I can relate -> took me yr and a half to get $400 back from a work mate, who was going on holidays and needed the $.. in the end, *SOMEONE* took the last bit of your advice, and beat him up.. it was a shame, but I had my $ within a week after that.
