GU sub tank transer pump...help...

My sub tank transfer pump stopped working on my 4.2.
I'm going to buy an aftermarket unit as I heard the genuine is expensive...$900.


Can anyone please tell me what the fuel transfer flow rate is?

Not sure on the flow of the one you are talking about but a Bosch pump (VL dunnydore pump) does the job just fine Bout $130 from memory

Ludacris had the same problem on his GQ and it turned out to be the small filter on the pickup. It was just clagged up and wouldn't let the fuel transfer. Does it make any noise when you turn it on or is it dead altogether? If it's dead altogether it may be a wiring problem with the pump or it may even be a problem with the fuel level sensor in either of the tanks. ie. if the transfer pump thinks there is too much fuel in the main tank or not enough in the sub tank it won't transfer. I'm assuming you've checked all of this. My first guess is check the mesh filter on the pickup.

The pump isn't working at all toughnut.
Pulled it apart today, wired it up to 12v and it wouldn't go.
Blew air into the second tank from the fuel line and could hear bubbles so the tank has fuel in it and it flowed out when I disconned the pump.

The pump has a few resistors, diodes, and transistors inside and it was coated with expanding foam. Have to scrape off the foam properly to check components for any dry joints if this is causing the problem.

Might be easier to buy another aftermarket pump or secondhand.

You can get an inline pump and use the factory pickup. You could even goto the wreckers and get a pump off an old mazda rx 3 or 4. It's only for fuel transfer so it's not so important. Be heaps cheaper than factory. Could probably source a second hand nissan pump as well.

Probably second hand is the go, but I need to figure out what flow rate the Nissan is so I can keep it the same or faster.

I don't want it to take ages to fill the main tank. But then again I guess most will be simular. Getting one of a 6 or V8 might be the go.

Might try and ring Mr. Nissan and see if they can give me some figures.

I hate guessing or experimenting as it costs money & time. Just want to get it right first time......
