Calmini Lift kits?????????????
Hi everyone, yes its about a nissan terrano/pathy but its a general question, after much reaserch and questioning and quoting i have come accross theses guys in the states http://purenissan.com/wd21_3_kit.htm if I were to fit this three inch lift will my drive train be stuffed ie will I need to get new shafts etc.. Im hoping for a no on this even better has anyone done this to a pathy or to there own rig (any type) and what other mods ended up having to be done if any?
P.S. I used yahoos currency converter and it comes in under a grand just add freight and import taxes (maybe, it should be under the $1000 limit) for what it claims it is a very cost effective way to get a highet increase at a respectable price compaired to ARB, TJM , PEDDERS, IRONMAN, Fulcrum and a couple others who told me my IFS would prevent anymore than a 35mm - 40mm lift with shocks springs and torsionbar windup for a similar price and one who said it could not be lifted full stop? constructive coments please or maybe a push in the right direction of some one who does this in Aus.

i'll guarentee you it will be way more than $1000 dollars landed.i have researched most of the kits available.the best one for mind without going to a solid axle is the trailmaster 4 in lift kit.because it still keeps the front driveshafts lined up after lifting.[url]www.trailmastersuspension.com anyway thats my 2 cents worth.

Don't do it. I put a 4x4parts 3" kit in my '91 Pathy an I still regret it.
The CV joint angle will be so steep that you'll go through a set of CV boots every year. The center link on the D21 models is quite weak to start with. You will trash it in no time if you go serious offroading.
I upgraded to a Patrol for serious offroading.
The only options on the Pathy I woul consider in hindsight would be 2" bodylift and 31" tires and maybe a 2" TJM suspension kit, or if I was prepared to spend the money, a SAS.
That's only my 2c.

You need to work out what you want to do with your car. ie what dort of driving you want to do now and in the future.
I had my Vitara, great little car. But as i wanted to drive harder terrain i started throwing more and more money on mods. In the end i realized that no matter how much i spent on it it was never going to do what i wanted it to, unless i went SAS.
I did not go SAS for a few reasons.
1. most IFS cars have small wheel arches, making tyre clearance a problem.
2. getting an engineer to sign it off
3. The cost of the conversion is generally much more than quitting while you're ahead and nuying a car that is more suitable to start with and cheaper to modify in the future (rangie, GQ, cruiser, Lux, Sierra etc)
I did have a Calmini kit in the Vit, worked well but got sick of busting CV's before and after install of the calmini kit.
Calmini's service was quite good, parts quality OK. Gwagensteve has also installed a couple and his only advice was use OME shocks and that some of the supposed 12mm holes were actually 1/2inch

Er, that was holes that were supposed to be 10mm being 1/2.
I have no experience with other brand calmini stuff but for Vitaras the kit is OK but needs refinement. Most of the fab work is OK and the geometry is pretty good. I don't like their springs (rate is good but they're too long to sit the car on the bumpstop) or their shock valving (too stiff)
The looseness of fit is a biggish issue for me though.
Generally good value for money though. I would rate their stuff better than the rest of the US market bolt on stuff (but IMHO that's not sayong much)
