re-registering a car. what do i have to do? (QLD)

so its nearlly time for my lux to arise from its once fallen ashes...

i need to get it registered soon, and i need to know what i need to do. (i've never done this before)

firstly, i need a roadworthy. whats these worth? hundred bux?
then i think i have to take it to qld transport to pay some amount (no idea) for rego for 6 months (i think its about $280 for a 4 cylinder)
do i have to take my truck to qld transport, or just the roadworthy cert? what is the rough total cost?

First off, you cant drive it to QLD transport unregistered. You have to apply for "day rego" to organise roadworthy and rego. This means you have to have CTP for the day.

Once roadworthy, you take to DOT, stand in line for 2 hours, pay say $300 i dont remember either, the ugliest woman behind teh counter goes and looks at your car for the numbers, then gives you new number plates. These have to be put on before you leave.

You will find your day rego costs an arm and a leg and it is way cheaper to trailer it.

I was under the assumption that as long as you have your safety cert and all rego app papers filled in you can drive straight to Qld Transport from where you got your RWC done. I did this with my 40 series a few years back. Check it out before you do it or just do a night run to Qld transport and save heaps

Make sure you have got your CTP before you go to Qld transport cause otherwise you wont get rego

last time I got a roadworthy it was $37 - probably be $55 now

I just got a roadworthy, went down to QT with the vehicle papers and proff of owener ship (old rego statements insurance etc etc) paid for 12 months rego, they gave me the plates and I went home bunged em on my car and walla.

I never took the car anywhere (have Mobil roady mate and didnt take car down to QT)

Its really luck of the draw sumtimes they ask to see your car sumtimes they dont... if they ask you, say 'I didnt bring it down cause its not registered'

I have doen afew car and all my mates and not yet once has the vehicle been inspected or even asked to be inspected.

Sumone tried telling me that 1 in 10 vehicles get checked when you re-register them (not sure how true that is) but so far I have never had a problem.

as i already said i never paid for one day CTP/rego and i never trailered the car anywhere didnt even give em back the old plates and for my car it was transfered from a different name aswell, and they still didnt ask for anything .

I got my MQ shorty re-registered recently.

In Toowoomba you can get tow trucks to take your car on a 1 way trip for $25-$30, so I opted for that rather than dicking around getting a car trailer, putting the thing on the trailer, hoping it don't come off the trailer etc etc etc. So try the tow trucks...might be worthwhile.

My roadworthy was $55 which included fixing a brake bleeding problem.

Went to Suncorp, paid the insurance which for a 6 cylinder was $165.40, tehn went to main roads and paid rego which was $203.30 incl stamp duty etc.

After you have paid the insurance you can drive the car to main roads for any inspection that may be needed.

Yep it is the roadworthy and 3rd party ins that is needed b4 you can drive it to QLD Transport

One day of rego will cost you close to $100 in 3rd party insurance. Good reason not to do it

thanks for all the information people, i got a mate's uncle's brother's business's local mechanic to do the dodgy roadworthy for a carton of XXXX

i'll get the roadworthy, get the forms and fill em out, arrange insurance, then get a mate to drive it to QLD transport (coz i have no licence) and hopefully get it registered.

im assuming this is your hilux. and i think the story goes that you had it deregistered at some stage.........

the only time they want to see the car is if they need to physically check no.'s. unless you have changed the engine then they shouldnt want to see it. check the numbers on the old certificate match the ones on the new application........and the vehicle. if the numbers line up, same name and adress i cant see any reason for them wanting to waste time checking the car. if they do want to see it, like others have said pay the third party (you cant do that at QLD Transport) im assuming your gonna go to sherwood office, theres a suncorp bank in corinda you can get third party from. actually, when i did it i already had the third party paid for, make sure its the same day otherwise the third party runs out befor the rego, and then take all the paper work in and you should be right
